I'd like to discover some progressive music with non-english lyrics. The reason of this is becouse I'm very much intrested in languages in that way that I enjoy the sound of many languages.

But if you can recoment me something in the English language that you believe I'd like I'd be happy for that aswell, of course! Aswell as instrumental bands. Anything that should be in my boat, so to say. :)

Etherway, in the progressive scene, I like the following bands:

Dream Theater
Liquid Tension Experiment
Ayreon
The Mars Volta
Banco del Mutuo Soccorso
Circus Maximus
Fantômas
Flower Kings
Frank Zappa
Il Balletto Di Bronzo
Jethro Tull
Mezquita
Opeth

I also enjoy bands like Amon Düül II but I feel bad to put them up on that list, since I have heard so little from them.

But ether way, all the above and a nice amount of others, but this should be able to give you an idea of my style. Well I'm really open to a wide spectral of music, that is. :) Or so I hope. :/

Magma

Amon Düül and Amon Düül 2 sing German at times, also the British Amon Düül. Guru Guru also occasionally have German lyrics (some examples are on "Hey Du!" and "Mani in Germani"). a multilingual example of singing can be heard on Christian Boulé's 2nd album "Non-Fiction" in the track "Viva da New Sound" (English, French, German, Japonese, some African languages, just don't ask me which)

Non-English lyrics ? Non-English lyrics are larger than English in my collection.

Oh thank you kindly good people. I'll take a look on them, as I like to hear what I'm expecting before I buy things. I'll have a look for MP3s. I have no clue what those bands you people mentioned are but I'll deffenently check it out.

Try the first couple of Premiata Forneria Marconi(PFM)albums.

Also,early Kaipa is in Swedish.

as far as the previous recommendations go:

fsb - only the first two
sbb - sorry, i've found very little here worthwhile.

 

the best:

Mago De Oz is highly recommended. Download 'Finisterra' and be amazed. The lyrics are in Spanish and they sound really good even though I have no clue what they mean

MAGO DE OZ's latest studio album "Gaia" is also excellent. Check out the MP3 of the title track in the Archives.

Another one worth trying: Brazilian group APOCALYPSE's 2003 album "Refúgio". All lyrics are in Portuguese. An excellent album in my opinion. Check out the MP3 of the title track in the Archives. (Treat the 2005 EP with care, though: the group has a new singer and style. The new guy sings in English and sounds more classic rock than Prog Rock, and the group's new songs are much less Proggy than on earlier albums).

I found a nice german-singing Kraut-rock band using this site: GÄA. I got their 1st ablum which I found good, and I'll order their second album as soon as I got more cash. Nobody hasn't reviewed any of their ablums yet!  I'll have to try work out something for their 1st LP during the weekend.

I'd recommend 'Harmonium' (sang in French- the band is from Canada) Try, and listen to 'Si on avait besoin d'une 5ième Saison'.

If you're looking for good lyrics in italian try "Fabrizio De Andrč + PFM In concerto"... This allbum live marks the meeting between one of the most influent italian singer-songwriters with one of the most influent italian progressive bands... PFM in this album arranged some of De Andrč's best songs giving them a new life... a masterpiece!

After the cascade of abovementioned advises I have for you:

Basque language (Spanish border with France)-band Itoiz (their first it the best)

Catalunian language (capital Barcelona, mix from Spanish, Portuguese and French))- band Dr. No

German-band Grobschnitt (2-LP Ballermann)

Castellano (South-American Spanish)- Chilean band Angulart (very expressive)

Norwegian-band Mikromidas (album Faunus)

German's are quite interessant:

Grobschnitt is such a great band ...  but they sing in english exept on the jumbo german edition..

Novalis is in german and they're good too ...
