I will agree with you on that. Why did it have to suck so much!?!!?!!!

I think alot of parts are excellent. I think your all just mad because Goodbye Blue Sky gets butchered , but pretty much the entire second half of the dvd is great... just becuase its not PF doesnt mean it cant be well done.

Alright, there are a few good parts, but on the whole, it was a debacle! And Goodbye Blue Sky is one of the best songs on the Wall.

I also noticed the double ratings by Velvetclown, they're also in other DT albums. The ratings didn't show up in the list, so it's entirely possible that he had forgotten that he already rated the albums and his email address had changed.

Any other comments on the review?

By the way, I think the general standard of the reviews being submitted recently has been fantastic. Has anyone else noticed an improvement?

I don't necessarily like his format (all the capitals, and crap) nor what he said in the review BUT his ranking (1 star) is pretty close to the mark. I (very generously) gave this DVD 2 stars.

I say keep the review, since so few people have even reviewed this DVD to begin with...

I'm not asking you to delete this BTW (please don't the rating is genuine, so it would be an informed "rating only"), but.

5 stars   It's hard to believe that ROLLING STONE magazine gave this album an awful review when it first came out (they also gave Rush's "Moving Pictures" an awful review, as well). Hands down, one of the finest LP's I've ever laid ears on.

Tux, I did delete it, but I wrote to the reviewer asking him to submit another one. He hasn't reviewed the album at all.

Indeed it does. Looking at what I wrote yesterday, well, all I can say is...I was just a bit too harsh. I don't know what the deal was yesterday, I jumped down a couple of people's throats. Palm Palmer, if you're reading this, I apologize for the gusto with which I attacked your review. Actually, I do agree with a fairly good portion of it.

I agree....just because its not PF, doesn't mean it can't be well done.

BUT, this is not well done by any stretch of the imagination!!!!!!!!!

And I'm a very tolerant sort of guy!

Recently, someone called jordisubir has given 1* ratings (no reviews) to Animals, Wish You Were Here, Mirage, Crime of the Century amongst many others. I can't find one album he's given more than 1* to. I think he is just trashing albums for the sake of being a prat. Can someone please check this and delete all his ratings (as they are distorting the ratings considerably) if this is so?

We need thoughtful reviews and ratings. not random vendettas. You may not like these albums but there is no way they could all be rated 1*.

That's a real can of worms Tony. If that's how he feels about them, he is entitled to say so. The old argument about no ratings without reviews is certainly strengthened by situations like that, as it would force him to explain, but I don't think we can assume a vendetta here.

As long as ratings without reviews are permitted, there's not a lot I can do about "moderating" them.

There's a guy who calls himself "yesfan" ... apparently he just rated every prog metal album that he could think of 1 star. If it turned out that he rates every symphonic prog album 5 stars, and every prog metal album 1 star ...

That's an insult for every single person whose review is deleted because there is no reasoning.

A little advice for you people writing "This is crap This is crap This is crap This is crap This is crap This is crap This is crap This is crap ...": Just don't write anything at all to ensure that your rating stays in the database.

Mike,

I hear you, and I agree it is an issue. I had said many times I was against ratings without reviews. At least we can see now when people appear to be abusing the system, and use that as "evidence". As far as your advice is concerned, as a rule I would delete the text and leave the rating anyway.

I can only suggest the ratings without reviews issue continues to be brought up regularly.

Yes you can, I don't know what information you have available, for I think there are ways to moderate ratings

Yes that's true ... and I'm very pleased about those ratings being "out in the open" now.

But I'm not sure how that can help to prevent or reduce abuse. "yesfan" is a good example: It appears to be abuse, but we can't be certain.

Maybe there's a way to detect abuse on the database level ... I'll PM M@x.

Exactly - he's entitled to SAY so. He doesn't say ANYTHING - he just rates them low. If he rates so many highly rated (by so many others) albums so low and doesn't give ANY albums high ratings (I haven't checked them all but a fair few) I suspect he just hates all prog, in which case he has no place on this site. We want constructive reviews and sensible comment, otherwise the ratings system is pointless. Sure, give "bad" albums poor ratings if you feel they're justified (I've only given one - Piper at the Gates - but I explained why I hate it) but don't just sl*g a random selection of albums as he seems to have done.

It's silly that a rating with no review stays, but a bad (ie inapporopriate) review gets deleted.

Anyway... Can we keep this thread for inappropriate reviews guys. The rating without reviews issue is an important one, keep it going elsewhere.Wink

Meanwhile, keep those reviews observations coming, both new ones and old reviews which are lurking in the depths. I really appreciate your help in unearthing them!Clap
