Marilyn Manson is lame and only a bad wanna-be copy of Alice Cooper! I love his (Coopers) theatrics. I didn't actually like him much before my then boyfriend took me to see him in Manchester a while ago. I was totally blown away. And the whole 'scary person' thing, is of course just an act! A part of the play. And he has written really good songs

Oh, and the thing about dead babies. That's a song about people trowing out their newborns, which is of couse something he doens't think is cool!!! He's not a monster! Pretty regular guy

MM has a few things I like, however, being outrageous for the sake of publicity is a bit old-hat and many others have done it better.

Okay, what's Alice Cooper's real name?

Vincent Furnier!

(without cheating)

Marilyn Manson: Brian Warner

I kinda liked shock-rock for a while (and I have to say, "Smells Like Children", from Marilyn Manson, is a little proggy, very experimental!)

I could have done that without cheating aswell!!!!!!!

I must say Joren, I'm pretty amazed!

I'm not into shock-rock like that at all. I only like Alice actually. Stuff like Slipknot and those kind of retards, make me feel sick

Slipknot are for stupid teenages who want to seem different and tough for attention. And who thinks music is just supposed to be able to scare your parents.  That's pretty sad

That pretty much sums up todays music industry and the reason we are at this site; music with quality, passion, musicianship and humor. I feel sorry for these kids who eat the crap spewed out of FM radio.

...not to forget all those horrible "casting-acts" and shows like (I guess the counterpart of our shows are called like this in the USA) "Star Search" or "American Idol"  We had more than 4 or 5 different casting shows and all of them had more than 2 seasons, AAAHHHH... and all those plastic-acts and "bands" are played on the radio and on TV, I can't stand it any longer I think I will go beserk soon
But the worst thin is that you CAN'T escape, those shows are EVERYWHERE...

Yes, you're right about Slipknot... but early Marilyn Manson is quite experimental and (in a way) maybe a little progressive... "Smells Like Children" is very funny!

I havn't heard Smells Like Children! I have heard quite alot of his stuff, cos of the popgirls at my school who thought he was 'cool'. I mean, they weren't genuine fans..it was just an in thing, I guess . I never liked him though... Not only cos of what he stands for, I've just not heard one song by him, I thought was good

You should Hear 'Wicked Young Man' by Alice, which is about Manson

Thanks.. I'll check it out!

Well... I've downloaded the song, and I don't think it's about Marilyn Manson... maybe you meant Charles Manson?

I'm sure! I just re-read the lyrics. I think it's about the steriotypical image of Marilyn Manson though. I mean, Alice can't excatly know what's going on inside his head... He's seems to use other peoples opinions and point of views alot in his songs, which is confusing if you don't know the story behind the song. It's difinitely not Charles Manson though, I'm sure

How cool you downloaded it though! When you ask people to do stuff like that, they usually just say 'ok' and forget about it. Thanks! Did you like it at all? Not one of the best. I didn't really notise it untill he played it live 2 years ago. Just the way he performed the whole thing!

I rrrreally liked 'Only Women Bleed' on this tour. You should check that out too. I got all emotional hehe. I really like the lyrics. Guess I can relate to alot of the parts. Great song. And Tori Amos did a great cover of it as well hehe.

Tori Amos  I don't like everything she's done, especially the newer stuff, but her cover of the Cure's Love Song is the best Cure cover I've heard. She elevates it.

The sterotypical image of MM... hm... yes, that sounds reasonable... but I don't believe he is as obsessed by death or Hitler as described in the song... and I like his paintings...

And when it comes to music, I hardly ever forget to check something out! I know what you mean... it happens to me all the time too: you're very enthusiastic about a song and you tell someone to check it out... they never really do it...

I liked it! I think both the vocals and the song sounded a little bit like Savatage (a prog metal band). It was not very similar to his older songs (like billion dollar babies or poison), more metal, but nice.

'Only Women Bleed' ? I believe I have downloaded that once a long time ago... I'll try to find it again. I don't know how it sounded anymore...

'Only Women Bleed' he did a really good version of last week. Aww damn, I wanna go again!!!

Ok, well... I came to think of this song from his Dragontown album, called It's Much Too Late. I liked the idea for the lyrics: Lennon wondering why he ended up in hell. I don't remember it too well, but I believe it was quite amusing!

Yep, most people never care, and it's hard to open them up to other kinds of music or even just other artists. I think it's a really posivite thing, and great that you care and love music enough to check other things out! So thank you sweet Joren, hehe!

So you like alot metal huh? Or is it just Manson?

No, son't get me wrong: I USED to like metal a lot. I still like certain bands, but I'm not such a big metal fan as I used to be... Saying that I like Manson, indiciates that I like Nu Metal or Industrial, which is NOT true. Apart from Marilyn Manson and Rammstein, I hate that genre...  (I saw Deftones live on a festival...) I just think MM is a fascinating person and I like his paintings... his recent music is ok, nothing more, nothing less, but "Smells Like Children" is experimental (and depressing ). Metal bands I used to LOVE were all OLD metal bands, from the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (and before, and bands from other countries from the same era), like:

Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, AC/DC (not metal, but essential hardrock, IMO)

Black Sabbath (The first metalband, IMO)

Judas Priest

Motörhead

Iron Maiden

Saxon, Diamond Head, Raven, Accept, Dio, Samson, Tygers Of Pan Tang, (only EARLY) Metallica, Megadeth, Angel Witch

And I even listened to a LITTLE death metal and black metal, like Venom, Slayer and Mercyful Fate, but it got too loud and noisy (and stupid, that fascination for the devil of those bands ) for me...

Stuff like that... but I got bored  and now I love Zappa, Beefheart, VDGG etc...

I actually listened to a bit of VDGG today, and thought it was quite good!

I love Zeppelin alot, though I'm guilty of not knowing any Zappa. I always see his stuff everywhere and I remind myself that I oughta listen to him.

Hehe Rammstein?? I had a friend who was mental about them! Do you like stuff like NIN or Tool?

Danbo, Love Song is my absolute favorite Tori song!!! Great cover! I'm SO GLAD you said that! I love that woman. I think you're right about her newer stuff. She's not really very experimental anymore and everything is more basic and very alike. The 'Boys For Pele' album was especially amazing.

Love Song means alot to me. It just reminds me of my ex boyfriend because I used to sing it to him I hope he forgot.

My wife and I play it once and awhile. I get to play those fills and the solo is easy and fun to change around. Boys For Pele is her best, IMO.

I don't know the music of Nine Inch Nails, I only heard their name (I suppose that's what you meant by saying NIN?). Tool was ok, but not very interesting. I didn't like their dark sound...

I don't know much of their music either. I liked most of the Tool I've heard, especially since they used a Bill Hicks quote in one of their songs. I haven't heard much NIN at all though (yep, Nine Inch Nails :)) hehe. Neither are among my favorites. Just thought you would probably like them, heh
