I found this article about the Stick and it's relationship with Prog on
the main Stick website. I though some of you here might be interested
in its content.

I hear you guys.
I've also been pondering purchasing a Stick for some time (four years). I think I might call the workshop this evening to see if they have any second hand ones kicking around. ![]() |

Yea, he uses it too, but he doesn't do anything fancy on it.
Ron Baggerman and Frank Leurs annually organise a stick seminar in Holland with a couple of professional stick players. The first day there's a concert with all the players showing a bit of their style and abilities. The second day amateur players get lessons from several professionals and in the evening the pros play in several small cafes. The third night there are lessons again and there's a final big concert with all the pros playing. Last year i played along on the saturday and i could borrow an alto-stick from my uncle. I've already been in love with this instrument since 1,5 year before that, but unfortunately i can't afford one ![]() Last year Ron Baggerman and Bob Culbertson were jamming in a small cafe with a great drummer a couple of days after the seminar and they played Hocus Pocus (Focus) with an amazing duel in it. Those guys are truly brilliant! |

You can get a used Stick on eBay for somewhere between $1,000 and $2,000. OR You can send Stick Enterprises a deposit, wait a year, and then send them somewhere between $2,000 and $4,000 and get your hands on a new one. Me, I'm saving up my money to get one on eBay. Once I'm happy with my playing, I'll go to a Stick seminar and see if I can actually reach a 12 string. Once I know for sure, I'll set Emmett a deposit for a new one. At current pricing levels, I'll owe him $4,386 just for the stick, not counting effects, amps, etc. Once I get the damn thing, I'll sell the original used one back on eBay. Hopefully by the end of the year..... |

That's the advantage to being married to another musician. My wife is lusting after a five octave folk harp. That'll run you about $5K. I also plan on selling a keyboard or two just to have the room... |

I noticed Trey Gunn got a plug there at the end, doesnt he play the Warr Guitar. BTW what is the major difference between the Stick, Warr Guitar, Megatar and any other similar instrument. If the answer's non then a Megatar is cheaper at $1000-$1500. |

I think I'd like to have a Megatar, that thing being the cheapest touch-style instrument with an awesome note range. Too bad touch-style instruments are not available here in the Philippines though.

They are all touch style guitars (or tap-tars as some say), the differences will be in differences in sound, feel and features. For one, I believe the Megatar has a shorter scale length than the others. The Stick doesn't have a body, so it will obviously be lighter and will have different sustain and sound characteristics. The Warr can be played like a regular bass guitar. Think of the difference between a Les Paul, a Stratocaster, a Telecaster and a Paul Reed Smith. |

Actually, I was joking. My wife supports pretty much anything I do. I guess it boils down to the fact I love travelling more than I love the thought of owning a Stick, as $5K would get us a plane ticket to pretty much anywhere in the world. Also, in my case, I'd need a Stick, the amps, and all the accessories. Not to mention shipping/handling, customs duties, and exchange of Canadian and US money. So, I think I'd be looking closer to $10K. We could go to Australia for a month on that. |
