I discovered not long ago 'Flower Kings' which is in my opinion the best modern prog band along with Dream Theater. They are very virtuosic, melodic, and interesting. They also wrote a lot of material considering how long they have been together.

 The song 'Vampire's View' from The Flower Kings made me buy Remedy LAne from Pain of Salvation (because of the singer). I did not have high expectations, but I was blown away!! At first, I did not like it much and I thought that it was a bad buy (only Beyond the Pain interested me). But I began to understand this concept album after each listen and now that I have listened to it about five times, I am starting to love it and consider this album better than any albums the Flower Kings have ever done. This album is very consistent, it flows together, it is metal yet very melodic, and of course, it has the perfect metal singer. I find all the songs good at least, and Beyond the Pale (now that I understand the concept musically and emotionally) stands as one of the best prog metal songs I have ever heard!!

When the time comes for a review, I would probably rate it 4.5 stars.

Are the rest of the band's albums this good!? I've seen in allmusicguide (competent and fair reviews for prog) all their albums in a 3-star average (with remedy lane with 4.5) and criticized heavily the album 'Be'.

Remedy Lane is an AMAZING album.  I still like the Flower Kings better than Pain Of Salvation, but I *do* love Pain Of Salvation.

Daniel Gildenlow's also worked with Transatlantic, check out the Live In Europe DVD.

I should check out the MP3 Samples, and see if there is one from the 'Perfect Element'

I of course still consider The Flower Kings are the greatest non-british, non-american Prog rock band ...they are the modern Yes for me. (Althrough Yes-Magnification reaches the level of the flowers)

Sorry Man Overboard, but I REALLY disliked Transatlantic's Live in Europe. Sometimes I think I was too generous giving it 2 stars. (And Daniel was almost not active in there, he was there in the back playing some background synths and rarely sang in harmonies (I couldn't hear his voice)) .. thanks God I rented that DVD in the Netflix DVD-renting program so I didn't waste much $$

What do you think of 'Beyond the Pale' ?... I think it is one of the most creative metal songs of all times (in terms of structure, vocal style, and musicianship), and of course, it is a complete MASTERPIECE.

Try The Perfect Element next, then work your way back...

Beyond The Pale is a great, great finale for Remedy Lane.

There's an extra track on the import version, called Thorn Clown.

Beyond The Pale is sadly awesome, reminds me things of my life. Sometimes even I cried with it. Remedy Lane is a masterpiece and Second Love/Beyond The Pale, the highest point of the album.

     When it comes to me- I adore 'The Perfect Element' much more than 'Remedy Lane' as , to be frank- there is no one specified reason for that- but quite a few..:
*First and foremost- 'Song for the innocence' makes me feel as if I were in paradise..- (it was written for small girl who's on the cover ).
*Secondly, I was given it at my the most memorable birthday party .
*Thirdly it was created at the state of D's elation(it was made for his beloved woman),
*The subject matter of this record is very much specific to Polish society.
* Good to know that Daniel used to cooperate with Trasatlantoc
*I love their music especially if it's partly modeled on DT and FK.

They have the first 20 minutes of The Perfect Element Pt. 1 available as free mp3 on their website, as well as some tracks from the other albums.

BTW: Remedy Lane is a great album, but I think that The Perfect Element Pt. 1 is slightly better. But also check out Entropia and OHbtCL, they are quite remarkable and each time I listen to them I'm just blown away by these guys' creativity and instrumental excellence.

^ Ed: If I recall correctly, you haven't listen to Entropia or OHbtCL yet? If so, don't dismiss them that lightly. From a prog METAL standpoint, OHbtCL might as well be their absolute masterpiece ... And at the same time it contains wonderful mellow passages. And Entropia is IMO the best debut by ANY band EVER!

well, I DO know both albums... But either I dident get into them properly or Nothing can be compared 2 the Grand Perfect Element... Just Finishing reconcilliation...

That was quite a time ago... You dident cofuse anything... I own Be, Remedy Lane & The Perfect Element, but still know the 2 1st albums.... But be4 buing them I'm trying to get the ldt. ed. of Pe pt. 1

Am I the only one who doesn't think all that much for the Perfect Element? King of Loss kills it for me... It's just too boring and long. I find Entropia, Remedy Lane and BE to be much much better.

That sounds like me after the first 3 to 4 listens ... just listen to it some more. It's their least accessible album.
