Phoenix was a romanian prog band, what is your opinion about their music? if you don't know their songs, you can download 3 songs from this site. I think they are great.

they were something like jethro tull with many influences from trad.
romanian music. they started in the 60, had 3 lp's between 71 and 75
(?) then left romania. give a listen.
and whoever put them on progarchives will maybe add the other great romanian band, sfinx.

"sfinx"(truly prog),"progresiv tm"(truly prog), "rosu si negru"(almost prog) and "celelalte cuvinte"(almost prog) are romanian bands witch are not on the archives.

If they were born in Britain we'll talk about the best folk-prog band ever...

I know a band called Phoenix, but it is french and not prog at all.
And it seems it's not only known in France.

Canto fabule is excellent, a truly superior album blending folk,
symphonic, psychedelic, hard and space-rock. Gorgeous vocal harmonies,
nice use of guitars and a fascinating use of synthesizers. Really one
of the more outstanding things from behind the Iron Curtain in the 70’s.
The only other Phoenix album I’ve heard is Mugur de fluier,
which is a bit of a more typical folk-rock, but worth hearing due to
its profound Romanian feel. It’s superbly done, just not as unique and
“special” as Canto fabule.
