WRONG - I HAVE PROVEN THAT THERE IS NO JITTER AT ALL ON THE PC DURING DIGITAL AUDIO EXTRACTION.

Don't get nervous, i'm not deaf!
Does extraction equals playback for you? Anyway, your theories are maybe perfect, but ther must be something else cause reality doesn't match with it. Like for tube amps distorsion rate theory, you remember? |

What do you mean by that? Extraction of the audio vs. playback on the computer eliminates the possibility of jitter, so it's absolutely imperative. If you then connect the DIGITAL output of the soundcard to your favorite amp (and hence let it do the D/A conversion), the signal will be as good as any good musical player could provide it. I remember the tube discussion ... I said that I appreciate the sound of tube amps although the distortion rate can be higher. Please don't quote me wrong all the time. And as for getting "loud" ... we discussed in length why digital audio extraction eliminates jitter. Please don't just begin to question that again without providing new facts - or at least tell me in detail which of the facts that I produced you think are wrong. Arguments like "I give reasons - you say it isn't - I give more reasons - you say it isn't - I give tons of reasons again and again - you say it isn't" aren't getting us anywhere, and you're only making a fool of yourself in the end. http://www.wordreference.com/definition/pathetic Edited by MikeEnRegalia |

You're a hopeless case, oliver ... you're really pathetic. WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT CD VS. BURNED COPY HERE. Stop avoiding answering my questions please. |

Oliver can dream of systems that cost the price of a new car. I'll
remain perfectly happy with my system that totals about $2000,
including the price of the computer.
[edit] oliver- try posting the thumbnail images of products from sites, not full blown images. You keep f*cking up the page width. We ain't blind. Edited by cobb |

^ this question:
How can you know that listening to CDs on the computer the way I described it doesn't work if you have never tried? I showed that there's no jitter, the digital signal gets to the amplifier unchanged ...

Hmm i actually uses the Nautilus 805 for pc speakers...with the best soundblaster soundcard tho...anyways even with the best soundcard in the world coupled with the best pc speakers in the world could not even get remotely close to some of the best Hi-fi stuff If i play the cd on my pc with the same amp and same speakers...(Using high quality cables between soundcard and amp) then i can not get the same quality of sound as if i where to get if i played it on my THULE-DVD player... The problems lies both in the soundcard and the cd-rom of the pc basically... |

A good hifi device is studied in all aspects to provide good sound. Each component has to be "musical", which means hours of listening tests.
Each part has to have his dedicated power alimentation. A computer is not designed for sound, it generates a lot of electric pollution. Many reasons for why a computer can't be a good source. |

The music components of my computer system are a trivial $600. I would need to pay at least 5 times as much to get a comparable hifi system. |

You are not digitaly savvy, are you oliver. The designers of high end soundcards know this and go to a lot of trouble to remove this 'pollution'. |

Wheras what should be happening is the component should be designed to playback what's on the medium as accurately as possible, and leave the "musicality" to the people recording it at the other end.
If there are only tube amps and transistor amps (and I may be wrong on that), how do you know that tubes are better if you only have transistors to compare it to? Maybe transistors are better and you just like the sound that's less like the original? How can you prove any different?

There has even been sound card with TUBES on...regardless of how much money you spend on your soundcard it will not sound right as the PCI-INTERFACE in wich the soundcards are put is not designed for optimal sound performance at all
