MARS VOLTA, THE De-loused in the Comatorium progressive rock album and reviews MARS VOLTA, THE - De-loused in the Comatorium (2003)
Review (Permanent link) by Nils @ 12:24:54 PM EST, 9/9/2005
5 stars  —   I think this is a perfect masterpiece. Should be in every record-collection! Theres nothing at the CD they should have done in a different way. I know Im supposed to be critical here, but Ive been listening to this album for about 2 years now, trying to find mistakes, faults or annoying things, but still, I cant do anything but loving it. This is something new. Its not like dream theater, and its not prog. This music should not be played by cover-bands. The fact that that the musicians in the band is extremely skilled, is just a plus. And I must add: "Skilled" does not mean "plays really fast". Allready, this album is concidered an all-time-classic. And it totally deserves it.

Well... what do you think, Easy Livin?

CAMEL - The Snow Goose (1975)
Review (Permanent link) by Commadoreguff @ 12:48:43 AM EST, 9/10/2005
5 stars  —   I Love The snow goose,Its an excellent album with good songs that are very interesting. The best songs on This Album are Rhayader,Flight Of The Snow Goose and The Great Marsh although all the songs are of very high standad. This is camel at their best and is well worth getting it.

Doesn't seem like much of a review...doesn't even seem coherent...

PINK FLOYD - Meddle (1971)
Review (Permanent link) by Howard the Duck @ 10:12:36 PM EST, 9/9/2005
4 stars  —
One of these Days: Wind effects and bass and finally guitar open into Roger's wierd voice : "ONE OF THESE DAYS I'LL RIP YOUR HEAD OFF". A more fast-paced track than the following. The album is underwater themed, you can hear it already. Mason's reverse cimbals and Wright's bursts of keyboard eventually come to the fabled line and some real Floyd jamming.

Not a problem with this review,it is perfectly done,a great presentation of every piece, yet the only wrong thing is the words on "One Of These Days"...For goodness sake, stop inventing something other than what it is...

So just this small thing,Easy Livin, the rest is perfect...

RADIOHEAD Pablo Honey
Review (Permanent link) by Boyibobo @ 12:23:26 AM EST, 1/17/2005

1 stars  —  Ok, so let's imagine that this is prog rock... All these pop songs are very bad, the kind of songs that your girlfriend listen to while she's washing the dishes. Creep was a MTV hit in the early 90s, and the rest, thank God, never became famous. The only good song is the last one, "Blow Out", with a great climax that sounds more like Post-Rock. Only get this album if you are a Radiohead fan and want to know how badder were they before.

Again, not much of a review...

RADIOHEAD Pablo Honey
Review (Permanent link) by Redhead @ 8:54:14 AM EST, 3/2/2005

1 stars  —  two words spring to mind: Mediocre and britpop...nothing more nothing less. This album just proves that RADIOHEAD are a medium pop/britpop group. If you want progmusic.. then go elsewhere! There are plenty of great groups whom are real prog..to be had!! Avoid this !!!

RADIOHEAD Pablo Honey
Review (Permanent link) by abraxas simpson @ 4:18:23 PM EST, 3/2/2005

3 stars  —  right, radiohead is not a prog band, thats why the web makers put: STYLE - Space/ Experimental. i dont know who the f*ck told you radiohead was a prog band. the albums " Kid A" and "Amnesiac " show why radiohead is called an experimental band.

Questionable language? heh...

RADIOHEAD Pablo Honey
Review (Permanent link) by clare @ 3:43:29 AM EST, 4/17/2005

4 stars  —  just bought it, so far it is waaaaaaay better than h.t.t.t. which is too electro-trash with lyrics that don't suit the music this time round they have outdone themselves, creep being the standout along with 'you' and 'lurgee' good on you

RADIOHEAD My Iron Lung
Review (Permanent link) by abraxas simpson @ 6:17:44 PM EST, 5/31/2005

4 stars  —  The first three tracks are definetly grunge but very good, from punchdrunk lovesong singalong and towards it becomes much more inventive. this album marks the beginning of radiohead as an experimental, inventive, and awesome band.

Review (Permanent link) by MarshallStarr @ 1:28:38 PM EST, 4/23/2005

5 stars  —  Brodders69: You are so spot on with your review/p*sstake of some of the saddoes on this site & I've got to say that Nick The Bassist ('Hey, I'm a musician - I know about these things!') probably wouldn't know one end of a bass guitar from the other if his review is anything to go by; Carry on the good work, both with the excellent & perceptive reviews &the merciless mickey-taking of those boring old hippies who think they know best!

Attacking other reviewers in his review...

RADIOHEAD Kid A
Review (Permanent link) by Eliott Minkovitch @ 9:35:40 AM EST, 3/11/2005

2 stars  —  Agree with the other reviewer - he put it very well. Any band that breaks new ground (not sure what new ground this band breaks though) cannot necessarily be considered progressive rock. Not bad for what it is, but dull and uninspired as far as progressive rock is concerned.

RADIOHEAD Kid A
Review (Permanent link) by brian @ 8:59:57 PM EST, 3/15/2005

4 stars  —  The people that slate radiohead have to get their head checked giving them 0 stars, uninspired? whatever. Dream Theater are better are they? Dream Theater great musicians that make cheezy music and make difficult to play for the sake of it. Shut up

RADIOHEAD Kid A
Review (Permanent link) by Yann Cerclι @ 6:14:09 AM EST, 4/18/2005

3 stars  —  This is a Good music, mais not essential ...

Kid A is goog ... Radiohead is good ...

But this is not the Macterpieces.

This is not a Pink Floyd or a Porcupine tree music ... this is the Rock of 2000

I'm not even sure what that is...

RADIOHEAD Kid A
Review (Permanent link) by pedro alves @ 9:56:29 PM EST, 4/24/2005

5 stars  —  i am listening to' kid a ' when i am writing this 'review'. i do not care if is prog rock or not it is just a out of this world album. i love guitar radiohead as non guitar radiohead. i just think radiohead are the best band ever....

RADIOHEAD Hail to the thief
Review (Permanent link) by Eliott Minkovitch @ 9:49:37 AM EST, 1/20/2005

1 stars  —  I was curious, so I gave it a spin. I got exactly what I expected - this stuff is totally devoid of any creativity, imagination or songwriting talent. Absolute zero in emotional content as well - it's all flat, boring, grey and whiny. Sounds like soundtrack music to a coma. That pretty much sums up this album, as it does hundreds of other "alternative" rubbish all over the radio these days

RADIOHEAD Hail to the thief
Review (Permanent link) by Progmeister @ 10:30:16 AM EST, 1/20/2005

1 stars  —  I guess the people who put Radiohead on this site must have a sense of humor, judging by all the abuse their albums are taking... I am sure there is going to be more abuse heaped on them in the future. Anyway, back to the album - there is nothing to say about it other than: it's a piece of junk.

RADIOHEAD Hail to the thief
Review (Permanent link) by Redhead @ 11:18:17 AM EST, 1/20/2005

1 stars  —  Right you are, this is NOT progmusic, its probably brit pop or somewhere near that, however Radiohead are a good exsample of angry brit pop. Progressive, NO WAY !!! if you need new inspiration to the world of prog, seek elsewhere!! Radiohead doesnt make it!!!

Those three look very similar, and none of them are proper reviews...

Well i'm done, plenty of Radiohead reviews to clean up.

Damen presents: Bad Reviews, Peter Gabriel Edition!

PETER GABRIEL Peter Gabriel 2
Review (Permanent link) by Freak Brother @ 12:11:22 PM EST, 1/7/2004

5 stars  —  Really, I think this one is badly underrated. It's even my favourite of him. The only solo album in which you can hear at least something of old Genesis. Just listen to "Mother Of Violence" or "White Shadow". Band is great too with Fripp and Levin.

PETER GABRIEL So
Review (Permanent link) by Lars Peder Kallar Devold @ 4:13:16 PM EST, 3/24/2004

5 stars  —  This is a very, very good album, flawless in composition and execution. Unlike Phil Collins, Gabriel managed to cross into the mainstream while retaining both his integrity and brlliance. A must-hear for anyone, even if it isn't prog.

PETER GABRIEL So
Review (Permanent link) by James D Hill @ 2:59:54 AM EST, 3/6/2004

5 stars  —  The man is brilliant. Peter is the best singer, songwriter and champion for political change on the planet and SO is the album that introduced him to the non prog population. Now I can talk about Peter GABRIEL to the pretty chicks at the health club and they know who im talking about because of SO. So what if its considered a pop album.

I'm sure Peter would be proud of this guy talking to the "pretty chicks" but it has nothing to do with his work

PETER GABRIEL Passion
Review (Permanent link) by Irish man @ 1:08:59 AM EST, 11/5/2003

5 stars  —  Shimmering, magical, percussive, eastern - Peter Gabriel moves in a World music direction, and produces the best work of his career, with some fabulous contributions from Yossou D'Nour, Babaa Maal, Nusrat Ali Fateh Kahn and more.

35 words...why are people so damn lazy with reviews?

PETER GABRIEL Passion
Review (Permanent link) by chris stacey @ 8:16:49 AM EST, 7/23/2004

4 stars  —  Dark, moody , brooding....a leap into another soundtrack effort from PG and a great leap too. At times not easy on the ear but there is no denying the complexities and sheer immersion of this artist creating music to this biblical event.

PETER GABRIEL OVO - The Millenium Show
Review (Permanent link) by jorge @ 12:47:59 AM EST, 4/9/2004

4 stars  —  as a "soundtrack" is emotional and surronded by perfection. Every piece of the music is linked and fluid, a great expresion of modern times through the story of a family. Tha artwork and the book that comes with it is marvellous, the percussion basis in "the time of the turning (reprise)" is outstanding.

No details about the music, artwork shouldn't factor in that much on a review.

PETER GABRIEL OVO - The Millenium Show
Review (Permanent link) by David Monge L @ 5:01:40 PM EST, 2/14/2005

5 stars  —  This Album is my favorite Gabriel`s album, it really combine his different kinds of musical tendences: world music, electronic and of course, rock music. Also, it is a complete conceptual work/show that can make you feel sensations more than a just the music. It really rules!!!!

47 words...sigh....

PETER GABRIEL OVO - The Millenium Show
Review (Permanent link) by Rogero @ 3:43:14 PM EST, 7/25/2005

1 stars  —  I have everything ever released by peter Gabriel, and personally I think this is poor. I played it a couple of times it is now gathering dust. Don't waste your money, buy PG4 and play "Wallflower" - sheer class.

38 words...

PETER GABRIEL Up
Review (Permanent link) by Emokid @ 5:49:28 PM EST, 3/19/2004

5 stars  —  he is still a magician... this album is so rich, it grows in you for so long that you just can stop playing it again and again... of course, this is not prog anymore, it's even better than that ! and Nusrat RULES !!! (R.I.P.)

42 words...

Well i'm done with Gabriel...

I'll have a look at the Radiohead and PG ones Damen, haven't got round to those 2 artists yet.Embarrassed Thanks again.

No,it's words...

2 - Reviews should be a MINIMUM 50 words preferably substantially more, no maximum. While ratings without reviews are accepted, you are strongly encouraged to write a review to support your rating.

Sorry ... I must have picked up "50 characters" in one of the various forum discussions about ratings without reviews.

Of course 50 words makes much more sense than 50 characters.

Edit: Apparently the web form is accepted if there are 50 characters, although the guidline says that the review SHOULD be at least 50 words. This also explains why these short reviews are accepted by the system.

The point is that a short review is not actually a review.A "I like it/I hate it" it's just an opinion, reviews are much more substantial. So the limit MUST be 50 words.

^ that is currently under consideration ... there's a big discussion going on about those ratings. Fact is that as soon as you write something at all, the system will only accept it if it's at least 50 characters.

I think that this is not a big problem, EL is reviewing each new review anyway, so the ultimate judgement is made by a human being and not by a database rule.

I think that there are good reviews with less than 50 words (not many, but still), and the 50 characters simply make it harder for people to post crap reviews (dada dsda dasdasad asd reviews).
