I downloaded Quiet Drops from Symphonic Holocaust and really liked it. I am wary of getting the album just on the strength of this one track. I like dark, creepy melancholy symphonic stuff - like Landberk, Paatos, Anglagard, Wobbler and the gentler side of Anekdoten & White Willow. I don't like things too distorted or atonal ... a little bit is fine as long as its softened with lush symphonics and melancholy atmospherics ... I like plenty of acoustic guitars too. your advice please ... so if there's anyone that could help me I'd be glad! I guess I'm wondering *is it as good as Hybris and/or Epilog?* Edited by felona |

I would recommend you to buy it, I don't believe that you could be disappointed! I can't compare it with Änglagård titles, as I'm not so fond of their albums... They are maybe a bit too neo-proggish for my taste. Great band still. typos... Edited by Eetu Pellonpää |

Yes, I agree with Eetu. It's a good album and I actually prefer it to
Hybris/Epilog, but that's mainly because I'm not a big Änglagård fan.
If you enjoy bands like Anekdoten, and don't mind a huge dosage of
mellotron, you should have no problem with Morte Macabre.

I didn't say it's neo-prog. It just sounds "neo-proggish" to me with constantly changing rhythms and themes. Calm down, please. |

Well, the first thing I noticed that irritated me in the music of Marillion, were "unneccesary" rhytm changes to my taste. There were also so pathetic themes, that they went over my ability to enjoy them. When I have heard bands, which I understand have taken influences from the neo-prog of 80's (Dream Theater, Cast f.ex.), I hear these same silly elements. I think many of these are presented in "Hybris" and "Epilog", which I own. I listened through "Epilog" last week, and I didn't like it very much. They have quite nice overall sound due their instrumentation (mellos, flutes etc.), but somehow the compositions feel... arty? I'm not sure if this is the proper word. Ah, there's also no jamming, it's like everything coming from a note. I think this element comes from symphonic rock, Genesis etc. I don't appreciate it. It works better in classical music. I must have unitentionally stabbed you to a very sensitive place! Are you having a bad day? |

Felona: "Quiet Drops" is a rendition of the theme by Goblin from the Buio Omega soundtrack. Have you already checked out Goblin?

"Apoteosi del Mistreo" is my favourite. Overall, the sound is a bit too
anekdotenish for me, but there are definitely some nice tunes. I hear a lot people appriciating this band even more than its origin groups, so certainly worth checking if you're one of them. |

felona, I cannot recommend you to buy it unless it is very cheap. this opus is nowhere near masterpieces by Anglagard, and far away from Anekdoten as well. There is nothing distorted or atonal, but just very boring and monotonous horror movies soundtrack. When I learned there are two guys from Anekdoten and two from Landberk I was expecting much from this album, but it turned out to be very mediocre
