That's 'page ONE' - Don't you know that it's proper English to spell out numbers below 10? <---------- Not a clown in sight (debatable) |

Yes. In fact, a common rule of practice in writing is: if the number can be said with two or fewer words, write it in word form, thus: "six hundred" If it takes three or more words to say it, use numeric form, thus: "666" Next: the arcane mysteries of its and it's, demystified, and the proper use of the apostrophe -- it's not something to be randomly inserted into simple plurals.
Yet why bother, when all is for naught? Dust in the wind, my fellow sufferers -- all we are is dust in the wind.... |

I saw a recent posting by Peter where he was down on the new low level
of threads appearing in PA forums. So what's the story Peter- this is
just as inane as the mariah carey thread

Whew. For a second there I thought I might be mistaken. My "it's" happens to be correct. I thought it was correct but Peter brought up the point of simple plurals. For a moment, I was confused. Oops, is confusion an emotion? If it is, I really need to be flogged - or just torn apart via a verbal barrage. |

Indeed it is, Corncobb -- all is inane, gainless scratching 'gainst the massy, mossy, granite walls of the crypt. As you have rightfully reminded us, humour and satire are mere weak, wishful whistling in the dark. I'm (almost) shocked that you could somehow summon sufficient motivation to even post here -- your time would have been better spent penning your own pathetic, pointless epitaph for the inevitable, encroaching end.
Still, on this fleeting, futile earthly plane, "Mariah Carey," as a proper noun, needs capital letters to raise it above the more common nouns -- though even that once-proud, perky diva's impressive, surgicially-augmented mammaries will one day lie cold, flat, lifeless and deflated, as the silicone slowly seeps to the frigid floor of the crumbling coffin, thereby easing the all-devouring worms' ingress for their fearsome, final, fattening feast... (Unless, of course, Mariah opts for cremation, in which case she will surely sizzle and burn all the brighter in her own freshly-rendered artificial oil, much like an overdone Butterball chicken....) The horror. The sickly-sweet, strangely familiar smell...
... any of that barbeque left?

We got slighlty interested about this site, as we saw the title of it, prog archives. We had an association of large, grey and dusty archives, where all vinylrecords of progressive popular music are labelled and homogenized as for material to future researchers.

Peter I did indeed give the proper noun person usage on your name as
your name implies proper noun usage- but the mariah carey thread has
nothing to do with the proper person name Mariah Carey so as such did
not require the proper person noun usage for the name.

Finally a thread devoid of the shallow aesthetics of so-called 'humour' characteristic of most discussions on Progarchives, and truly deserving of the attention of a serious listener to progressive music. And yet the presence of this thread on the front page seems to be but a futile attempt at resurrecting the commendable initiative of endowing at least a symbolic fraction of Progarchives with the seriousness it was meant to possess from the very outset, of retaining the sense of fear and wonder essential to any meaningful discussion on the subject of progressive music. In a day this thread will return to the dark depths it rose from, like the derelict it truly is. And any hope that might have seen the light of day with it, will sink together with its unwilling bearer, thereby continuing its sempiternal mission of taunting and misleading humankind.
