Calling DP canterbury is like calling worlds fattest man small and thin Im not very familiar with DP, but It's NOT prog, and ABSOLUTELY NOT Canterbury. |

Though their early material is semi-progressive, as is Jon Lord's solo
work adding Deep Purple is a huge mistake. I assume the Canterbury
thing is a genuinely unintentional one.

The only possible reason for including Deep Purple here is the "Concerto" as far as I can see, but one album doesn't make them prog. From here, it's a short step to Whitesnake and Coverdale's poodle perm.

I don't think that the Concerto album can be called Progressive. It's just the combination of an orchestra and a hard rock band, the actual music is not symphonic at all.

I don't think anyone has anything to worry about. Max or someone will fix it soon enough. Great Rock band though. On their last album Bananas, Steve Morse plays some real nice guitar and theres one song on the album that has this real easy mellow rock groove called, 'You better walk on'. Must admit though, Gillans voice sounds a little dated. |

I realise I may be in the minority here, but I find some of Deep Purple's work progressive enough to be included on the site; perhaps more so than bands like Vanilla Fudge and as progressive as work by bands like Uriah Heep, who have been here for some time. I have no problem in calling 'Child In Time', 'And The Address', 'The Mule', 'Chasing Shadows' and 'April' progressive. However, even I would be hard pushed to find anything prog about albums after 'Machine Head'. Even so, I for one have no problem with them being here. However, if they are taken off, I shan't be too upset either... But Whitesnake? Even I know where to draw the line! |

don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime. I never said I was frightened of dying. |

Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin are all great bands but none of them belong here. They are all blues based rock bands that had keyboards and great drummers. There is where the confusion lies methinks. Kansas is a great prog band from the 70's Stonebeard. They kick ass live too.

Concerto is no way a reason to include them Metallica played with symphonic orchestra too, on the album S&M. Lets add them then. they're a great zeuhl band after all |

Here is what I think about the situation: ( I've already put these words in the collaborators section) an album as "in shades of deep purple" has evident prog accents, with lot of organs arrangements, a few complex interludes...but what about the rest of the discography? Sorry this is a very controversial entry, I can't agree with! many prog bands from the late 60's are not already added to the archives, so in which particular reasons do we need to make a favour for Deep Purple (for the moment)? it's just as if we have nothing to speak about. I will talk soon about this disconcerted addition with the others Admins to have a finale decision! Moreover the vote seems to be without appeal!!! Edited by philippe |

Deep Purple = crap, and not because they are not prog but because they are simply crap.
