Ebay & ebay's Half.com are places that I have found lots of good buys at. The shipping at Half.com is usually very reasonable, credit cards or paypal for most transactions.

Call me old-fashioned, but I just like visiting a record store, looking
through & picking up an album, and buying it - there's something
very tactile and satisfying about it; I suppose it reminds me of the
excitement of going out to buy a new release on vinyl "when I were a
lad..."
These days I guess internet sites like Amazon etc are cheaper but its
just not as much fun - only exception is if there's a rare CD, then the
internet sites are often better at cheaply sourcing especially from the
USA (I'm in the UK!)

I like nothing better, but it's so rare for me to find a CD of genuine interest in a real store.

In Montreal, there used to be a great store that specialized in prog
and metal albums. It was an amazing place; one of the few actual
physical stores where I could walk in and browse and find stuff I
wanted to buy. Unfortunately, I haven't been to that city in a
while, so I have no idea if it's still there. I have a feeling it
might not be; it didn't look terribly prosperous the last time I was
there. *sigh* Prog is such a niche market.

Pretty good site for mp3 downloads for only .10/song.
Their prog selection is somewhat limited - you can check out their catalog before joining.. |
I have used this site as they have a reasonable selection of prog. I
wasn't sure of the legality of this site but I have it from a reliable
source (Pendragon's Nick Barrett) that it's illegal.
Try www.caerllysimusic.co.uk.

You really shouldn´t complain! I live in Argentina, were for some reason, you dont get many prog albums...and why is that? Well there isn´t a wide market here, there are not so many people (now) that like or even know of prog. Let me put it like this...I dont have 2112 from Rush...and not because I dont want to, I dont have Octopus from Gentle Giant ...and not because I dont want to, I dont heve The Power to believe from King Crimson ( in fact I dont own any `90-`00 Crimson album)...and not because I dont want to. The big stores dont have many only one or NONE Crimson album. The only bands you can bet your ass that are everywere are Pink Floyd ( who ironicaly sells big time here...), Yes and Genesis.
But you can get prog, if you look for it. For example I buy vinyls! I got Starles and bible black ( which I later found in cd...and also bought) and Larks tongue in aspic ( which I also found on cd but didnt bought) from KC, Close to the edge from Yes ( which can easyly be found in cd...I also have the cd...but bought the vynil first because I wanted the classic format as well), Free Hand from Gentle Giant and finally Rushs Hemispheres and Permanent Waves...
I could buy albums on line...but the dollar here is a little expensive, so every album would cost me three times more.

That's a real shame, there's only one thing to do - emigrate for the sake of your prog collection!

Record Fairs are a good place to buy prog or any music, I could spend hours perusing cds at them, in southern England they have them about once a month in the large towns.
I dont find Amazon that expensive..Soulseek is even cheaper though
