This thread's handy for me, actually. The last time I had money to
spend on CDs was about 9 months ago, and back then I mostly used
amazon. Now I've got a MASSIVE load of far more specialist CDs to find
and I need somewhere which is either based in or ships cheaply to the
UK. Any ideas, Felona?

TP ... greg at http://synphonic.8m.com/ has really good prices and ships up to 5 cds for $5 w/out cases. I've always had very quick service from him - he is very friendly & helpful.

Ahh! I've looked at this guy's catalogue before - amazing range! I'm just a bit nervy about ordering from America. Still, if you recommend him then he must be reliable! Looks like I'll be starving for my first weeks at uni! |

TP ... look...don't worry ... he sends me stuff all the way to Oz and if the package can survive the handling of Neandertal aussie posties ... it'll be safe in the hands of your well-mannered British Postmen Pat's ... and the gentle paws of their black-and-white cat's

I can definitely support Felona's recommendations for mail order from the States. It's somewhat bizarre that I got a lot of British prog from there costing less than obtained through the UK.... Most of Bill Bruford solo albums at US$ 6 !!!! In Australia they sell for A$ 60...! In the UK perhaps half of that.... Avoid David Crosby's mail order - if it still exists - not that they would have much in prog, but they had Jean Luc Ponty. They sent me the wrong stuff, overcharged and never responded to my querry. Yes, that's him from "Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

How do you pay in $'s? I'd say, use your Credit Card, pay attention to the fine print, including postal charges charged and take on board the recommendations about decent businesses, most of which are also Prog lovers... |

I too have recently discovered how little prog there is available in the major UK retailers (see my recent "HMV and Prog" thread). I did find IQ's Dark Matter in Virgin recently but have resorted to mail order recently, either from Amazon or the artist's own web site.

just use your credit card as normal - they'll work out the conversion automatically - i have an Aus and a UK credit card and have no problem paying in $$$ ... more's the pity for my bank balance!! Edited by felona |

i can't believe ppl buy from amazon. they're twice the price most places. the laser's edge is good, but i mostly use bigballoonmusic.com. the range isn't alway's huge but when they have a sale they go down to $11 US. Cd Baby was good when i wanted to get Echolyn related stuff too. insideout should set up a US shop. the prices on the european one are obscene!. |

well actually you can sometimes get some good deals from the amazon *shops* - or whatever they're called - used/nearly new/new stuff from independent traders using amazon to advertise etc |

Pretty good site for mp3 downloads for only .10/song. Their prog selection is somewhat limited - you can check out their catalog before joining.. |
