Denis D'Amour, aka Piggy, has died. I understand he passed last night or early this morning. He was co-founder, guitarist and chief songwriting catalyst for prog-metal gods Voivod. Please see www.voivod.com or www.voivodfan.com or www.theendrecords.com for more info.

A truly sad day for fans of the band and fans of progressive music in general. I've followed this band for half of my life, since early 1985, and this is almost like losing a family member for me. Piggy's guitar work was always bursting with energy and innovation and life, and he'll always be alive through his music. Hail Piggy.

Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean en état de choc!

Voivod was already a very promising metal band in the 80's. I remember tons of metalheads shouting a guttural "Voivod" in the streets of Quebec City's Haute-Ville!

This news is very sad! His memory will remain forever in the world of prog & metal!

I express my condoleances to the family.

Oh no.

Your fantastic contribution to the world of guitars and atmospheres will be missed.

Whenever an artist, musician or writter dies its twice of a lost, not only has the world lost a human being but also somebody who has made others lifes better because of there art. Its sad, but we dont have to miss him...we have to remember him, remember the music he did, the songs he wrote...

Voivod was always an original band and with Piggy they lost an important person and musician.

A very sad day for prog and metal. Thoughts go out to family and friends of him. R.I.P. buddy!

It's very sad. I heard about this tragedy today morning, Denis D'Amour was great musican and guitarist.

Denis Belanger says that Voivod will finish working at new album. Propably a new album will be rady at the begining 2006. This album will be a homage for "Piggy".

Yes, a great québécois (from Saguenay-Lac-st-Jean, like me) in the world of music has passed. May he rest in peace.

I heard they also have a lot of guitar work from D'Amour, enough for 4 albums.  I thought the last Voivod was a very graceful modernization of a great prog metal band.

It is also unfortunate that he died.
