I'm probably not the best one to do this, since I bought an album based on a recommendation and I failed to see why they are considered so good.  Perhaps I simply don't "get" them.  That's okay; I think they are not for everyone's taste.

They are entirely instrumental.  I would say they straddle the line between quasi-symphonic and fusion.

thanks. That does seem to be  helpful. I am a big fan of instrumental music, and fusion no less, so maybe I'll like them.
