Extreme technicality: sugestions?

   Greetings, everyone!

I'm really impressed with this website, which has, for these couple last months, been my reference on Progressive Music.

As most kids, I was for a long time induced to listen to the popular
references on music. Being from Portugal, I would most certainly listen
to portuguese bands and single artists, whether good or just plain
ridiculous. 

   Well, as time went by, I started to define my preferences
and choosed Queen. They were ["aren't" anymore, to me, since Mercury's
death] obviously a popular band, and their latest albuns were fancy for
the common listeners, pretty much like Pop. However, their early songs
became of my greatest interest, because of the tempo changes, and their musicality and variety.

   My next step was Deep Purple. They threw me into the world
of metal. But Deep Purple is an "all-genre" influential band. Deep
Purple would also "throw" me into the discovery of Jazz and Rock.
Unfortunately, and due to the influencies of friends and family, I went
deep into Metal, mainly "Thrash", and technical&not-so-gutural
"Deathmetal". But, on the other hand, these genres would induce me a
better hearing and a need for higher standards... Is it fair to label
music by "genres" or consider "higher standards" of it? Well, this was
just and aside, anyway... 

   The first so-called progressive-metal band I've ever
listenned to was Dream Theater. I felt amased after meeting Awake and A
Change Of Seasons, so, I wanted more...

Symphony X,

Pain Of salvation,

Aghora,

Spock's Beard,

some Kamelot,

some Evergrey,

some The Gathering,

Fates Warning,

Liquid Tension Experiment,

Gordian Knot,

Transatlantic,

and a few more, which I can't remember, at the moment. But heavier metal bands could be considered in this list of progressive:

Atheist,

Control Denied,

Cynic [Amasing! *Cough* just another aside.],

latest Death,

latest Opeth.

But it's still not enough...

Therefore, I came here, to Progarchives.com, to find more and more
about progressive bands and their music. In fact, several bands in the
above mentioned list were discovered while browsing this site. I'm
already looking for albums of most progressive metal that I found here.

   One of the most interesting I've found was the MCM trio.
Those guys are amasing, quite fast and technical, even though their
songs tend to have repeated... erm... how do you call it? Guitar riffs?
Drum parts? Sorry, I'm a really newbie, here... Besides, english is not
my primary language.

   My point is that I'm looking for more technical bands,
preferably with metal influence. But not just technical, I want a
non-stop blender of tempo changing, guitar solo & jamming, and versatile rythms. Where can I find such a band? Is there such a band?

   By the way, I don't just stick on "metal" or any sort of "heavy" music. That increases the change of existing such band, I hope. I'm
looking for other genres, even if less "loud". Heavy and intense is not
their sound, yet their melody and rythm. Two nice examples of
not-so-heavy are Spock's Beard and ELP. This last, ELP, even if not
mentioned in my "preferred" list, is and amazing trio of musicians with
lots of those things I'm looking for... It's a pitty their sound is so
old, though.

   I hope you got it. I'm willing to participate on your
discussions about progressive music and music as a whole. Therefore,
don't mind posting some links to the history of this genres, and their
technical details and aspects, too.
