Topic: Funny prog story Posted: August 25 2005 at 11:30 |
My friend turned 17 yesterday so we could finally get into R movies. We decided to see The 40 Year Old Virgin which was a surprisingly funny movie. Anyway the "Virgin," named Andy had a framed poster of Asia in his room. One of Andy's friends then says, "Hey Andy, you know how I know you're gay? Because you like Asia. I bet the guys in the store laughed at you when you asked them to frame an Asia poster."
I guess prog fans aren't the only ones who know how horrible Asia is.

You can say that again.
Easy Livin actually asked me to touch over my reviews I did early last year because they do not respect the artist enough! Damn right they do not!
But I told him I would see what I could do! So I am working up the courage!!!!
Hopefully before the end of the 21st century!!!

let's just stay above the moral melee prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword

Well, in fact Asia was glam enough to be enjoyed by gays. I have read that disco was music of emancipation of gays and black. Anyway it explains the bond between the Buggles ?
speaking of R rated movies and prog? Have any of you ever realized, that in score of classic "Emmanuelle" the theme from Larks' Tongues In Aspic Pt. II by KC has been used?

I haven't even heard Asia.
I'm not exactly compelled to check out their work....

You're not missing much, but they do have nice album covers. Its worth trying to pick up some of their albums on vinyl. The covers should be framed, and the records molded into very attractive ashtrays..

if Asia were considered pop-rock, and not prog, people would probably be more inclined to like them.

How can everyone hate Asia so much? I mean, 80's pop rock is just
so lovable! Whenever I hear Asia, I just want to give Steve Howe
a big hug (Actually no, he's pretty gross, and Asia sucks, but they suck in that sort of "so cheesy it's good" sort of way.)

You need to be 17 to see this film in your country? Where do you live?

Sounds like the United States to me. You can see this movie (and any other R rated movie) if you're younger than 17 if you have an adult with you, but many places don't check (at least near where I live). If it's NC-17, you can't see it unless you are 17 (although these movies aren't allowed to adverize on TV, so it's hard to know when these are showing).

Yeah, the United States is a pretty puritanical country. That's
what happens when half the friggin' country is made up of
fundamentalist evangelical Protestants. We're so far behind the
rest of the world on things like gay rights, drugs, and sex, because
our country is so damn moralistic.
