So, this album is blowing me away.  I am in awe at their abililty to combine complexity and beauty.  I have mentioned this before in another thread, but when I first got this album I had difficulty paying attention while i was driving because it was that good.  And the vocalist, hot damn he is fantastic.  I can only assume they have wonderful lyrics, because I have no idea what they are talking about.

So...  only one album, well at least from the seventies that is.  How is there release from 1999?  And one album, what the hell, these guys must have been in other bands in Italy.  Could you point in the right direction as to what other bands these guys played in.  Specifically Michele Conta and  Alberto Gaviglio because they are the prominent song writers and Gaviglio has that excellent voice.

I recommend this album to everyone, it is fantastic in everyway.

You can skip it. It's just not worth it and not similar to the -77 masterpiece. The reunion albums of Italian bands are kind of a hit (Metamorfosi) or miss (Locanda delle Fate, Museo Rosenbach).

I'm not aware of any other groups by the band members. There probably weren't any. Maybe this is due to the fact that -77 was more or less the final great year in Italian prog. After that it seemed to be almost impossible to release new prog albums in Italy and only a few were released.

you dont think that that they played in bands prior to Locanda Delle Fate?  I find it hard to believe that that was their first album for any band

It's the worst thing that I EVER listenned in my whole life. And, yes, somehow it's even worse than anything by Glass Hammer or Pendragon.
And above all, is punk

He means probably both. This Fantomas character hates all the best stuff (symphonic prog).

Have not heard the new album, but I am a HUGE fan of the 77 one. All reviews I've seen (of the newer album) have been alltogether mediocre, however.

it is sticky, but it fails in pass a climate. It isn't pretty... It is just sticky. It's poor, mediocre. Blink 182' Adam Song by itself is better than anything in that album.

If you want to hear something truly emotive, go for Lou Reed's Berlin. If you want to hear something pretty, go for Air's Moon Safari.

The Italian Syphonic is even worse than England's, and as bad as Germany's (that's because I like Novalis)... Cheesy, full with dull lyrics, screaming weirdoes trying to be a tenor, and absolutely poor pretentious keyboards passages.
And above all, is punk

I like this group (their 77 album), but sometimes is the music too much melodic with too much slick poppy vocals for me (only in one or two tracks) -- like those cheesy Italian Festivals in San Remo. But the playing, compositions and complexity is amazing on this album.

One album that I keep returning to over and over again ... I guess I'm going to avoid the reunion album ... maybe if only cos it doesn't have Leonardo Sasso (the overblown Zucchero-soundalike who gives Locanda that romantic feel) ... I must say I didn't really like New York, the late 70s single released after FLLNSAP that's often tagged on as a bonus track.

Sounds facile, I know, but perhaps some of those brilliant Italian 70s symphonic bands were meant to be appreciated in just the one majestic dose ... but then again we have PFM and Banco who hit the mark more than once ... I still can't believe that PFM followed Storia Di Un Minuto with Per Un Amico ...

"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

It IS a great album. Great playing, a very crystalline production, some compositions (not all) are very good. One of the best Italian cd's I know.

There's also a live album on Mellow Records (I believe it's creatively titled Live). It's from the 70s and basically features the compositions from Forse le lucciole..., plus one new composition that's just as good as anything else on that album. Only problem is, the sound quality is downright awful, but if you're used to bootlegs than you might have no problem with it.

Myself, I never listen to Live even though I really like the '77 album. Haven't heard the reunion album and don't have any desire to.

I saw your icon in another thread... one of my favorite Italian albums, along with another on the opposite side of the spectrum.  "Ys" hahahah

It´s a masterpiece and it´s a shame some people say it´s not good at all. I really feel sorry for Fantomas, maybe it´s too much for him.
