Not the worst musician from any point of view, but Steve Howe's voice is a disaster, first time I listened believed it was a joke.

He's among the best guitar players in history, he should not try to sing. Not even in the shower.

Why do excellent musicians in their respective instruments like Howe or Hackett try to sing when they are not remotely good?

Iván

Keith Emerson's voice is bad too, not as bad as Howe's though

Steve Howe's voice never bothered me. His appearance nowadays bothers me. As much as I love his guitar work, he's one ugly ugly man. He looks worse than Keith Richards!

EGAAAAD!

I think that 'The Worst' often comes out at a time when a movemnent becomes popular almost overnight, and everyone decides to pick up a guitar overnight and have a go.  This rarely happens in prog, because it isn't popular enough, but take your mind back to some of the truly awful Punk bands that formed in Britain in the late 70's...(remember The Vibrators?) no talent but could get a record deal because of the overnight appeal of the movement.

The only example I can think of personally in prog, are the number of Teutonic Prog Metal bands out there, which are all highly derivitive, and add nothing to the genre... because Prog metal is popular on the continent.

My personal choice for this section would be 'Angra', who I think are truly awful.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

You ARE Joking, right?  I think you need to listen to 'The Grand Illusion' again, just to refresh your memory as to how good they were... your grey matter has clearly gone a bit fuzzy around the edges with age!!

The worst prog band is probably something you never have heard...

...and with a little luck, you never will hear it either.

I hadn't thought about Styx for awhile, thank god.

It's the other way round for me, I quite like his voice but it's only on very rare occasions that the music does anything to impress me. There's a little sax bit that I totally dig, and the piano chords on one of the songs are lovely too but beyond that I could take it or leave it  - from the three albums I have, anyway.
