While walking near the downtown district in Amsterdam one night a few years back, a crowd of people were coming out of a small theater.  I thought a movie was letting out, but then I saw the posters and flyers strewn everywhere.....it was a Golden Earring concert!  The band played a week long stint at the theater and I caught two shows.  Great stuff....they're from Holland, I believe, and the crowd absolutely loved it!  Was never a big fan of their LPs, but the live show was really entertaining.  They played "Twilight Zone" twice in a row at one show....the audience DEMANDED it!
I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....

Unfortunately you cannot get the Hearing Earring compliation in the CD age  Together and Seven Tears give all the tracks (I think) from Hearing Earring, plus others!

No need for alarm you'll come to no harm
He didn't mention the sniper

The news is read, the need is fed
One yawn ah, two yawn ah and back to bed
Turn off the light, and hold me tight
C'mon, maman, bend down your head
And just sing on, immortal song
Fini, belle vie., bonne nuit

Remember that song called kill me
A lecture on political chicanary
Of peoples' rape, recorded on tape
Brought shame to the presidency

Tonight, tonight one more point for human rights
Tonight, tonight one more point for human rights

Remember that song kill me
Once used by a man from Gallilea
He had nothing to lose, he was King of the Jews
Secured his place in history

Ce soir, ce soir assassination d'un provocateur

The news is read, the poison's spread
One yawn ah two yawn ah and back to bed
Turn off the light, and hold me tight
C'mon, maman, bend down your head
And just sing on, immortal song
Fini, belle vie

Vick played his part, with all his heart
He wasn't prepared for the shock
When howling lead bit into his head
A new martyr for the book of rock
A new martyr for the book of rock
The book of rock
A new martyr for the book of rock

Barry does write some great lyrics.

Switch cd is shorter tracks in the rock vein.Still very good.

I consider Moontan to be my introduction to Prog.  It was at that point in time that I began looking into the more obscure, non-pop/mainstream music genres.
Switch, To the Hilt, and Mad Love were more pop leaning even though I enjoy them.  Switch is the best of the three.
I consider Twilight Zone a sell-out.  Can't stand it!
Two heads are better than one, but if you want something done right, do it yourself.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained, but better safe than sorry.
Look before you leap, but he who hesitates is lost

I grew up with The Golden Earring because I was so proud that they came from my hometown The Hague. Rinus Gerritsen and Georg Kooymans had a music-store, Barry Hay is said to have conquered more chics than Gene Simmons and Cecar Zuiderwijk still gives drum lessons in The Hague. I'm really delighted about the warm and enthousiastic attention for The Golden Earring in this topic from so many collaborators. I consider them as prog-related but they also released a lot of popprog and poprock. A song like Back Home (great fllute) could have been from Jehtro Tull but many other songs contain progressive elements and lots of good musical ideas, they were excellent songwriters and Barry Hay (born in India and speaking fluently English) is a very good singer. Check out their first live album!
