My favourite Genesis album is Foxtrot, by a mile/kilometre. If I had to select just one album to illustrate progressive rock to a visitor from Ulan Bator then this would be the one. Which is your favourite? I'm limiting the poll to the first ten albums but, in the (unlikely ) event that your favourite is a later one, just post!

Selling England. I felt it was the best effort. Every member in top form.

Looks like a four horse race, but I suspect Trespass will run out of steam quite quickly, great album, but its up against superiors!

I went for "Nursery Cryme", it has that naive brilliance of a band suddenly finding they have immense talent.

Trick Of The Tail because I play it the most of any Genesis album. Not one bad track. You can find 'fillers' on every other Genesis album but not on this one!

Foxtrot / Nursery Cryme / Selling England

My big three, I voted for Selling England, but tomorrow could be one of the others.

The Lamb got my vote - not all tracks are that good ("The Waiting Room", for instance, is QUITE boring) but it has some of their best tracks, and arguably the best concept ever for an album. And, besides of "Dancing With the Moonlit Knight" and "Supper's Ready", all my fave Genesis tracks are on here.

Difficult to pick one. I voted for Selling England By the Pound because it is solid from beginning to end.

Hmmm I think Foxtrot is my favorite...but it's difficult, Selling England follows right after, very close but Foxtrot made it because of Supper's ready and the funny cover

Foxtrot was my first Genesis album and one of my first prog experiences. Even though I consider Nursery Cryme & Selling England by the Pound, great albums, Nursery Cryme indicates that a little (very little) maturing is needed before the absolute perfection is achieved, Selling England by the Pound unfortunately has the weak track "More Fool Me" with vocal work by Collins. The Lamb is a bit different from earlier records, due to the strange "noise" experimets performed by gabriel, but in it's own way just as good.

For some strange reason I have never learned to appreciate Trick Of the Tail & Wind and Wuthering, I just feel that I truly can hear something is missing, and I'm NOT a fan of Collins' singing. Hackett is a smal comfort though.

My vote therefore goes to: FOXTROT

Second would be The Lamb...

Third: Nursery..

HI, THIS IS CÉSAR INCA.

I've just voted on 'Selling England...', the classic line-up's top achievemnt. The musicianship is more confiedent than ever, the arrangements are filled with exquisite finesse, the instrumental ensemble feels more cohesive and tighter, and the diversity of musical ideas is well integrated (except for fiasco 'More Fool Me' - I wish the song 'Deja-vu' would have been there, instead). Nevermind Banks' and Collins' moderate reservations about this album, I agree with maestro extraordinaire Hackett on this - it's Genesis' top masterpiece.

Regards.

Very well put.

I voted SEBT£, but  NC was my introduction to Genesis, It's a tough one to call.

(Shouldn't that be SEBTlb? I don't know, the free Gabriel pound note that came with the original LP confuses the issue.)

Interesting to see that "Wind and Wuthering" has nil points so far, yet I'm sure almost all Genesis fans would agree it's among their finest. Maybe we should have a poll for their second or third best, I'm sure it would then rate quite highly.Big smile
