Louis Armstrong

   I hadn't even heard this man's stuff until yesterday. I had heard about him, and one of my friends got a box of old records he was told he could sell off, so he told me he had some louis armstrong and i decided i'd check him out since i knew i was going to check him out at one point, and i was affraid that if i did so after these get sold i may end up regretting it.
So i checked him out, and i liked! As of Saturday i will own three of his records. I'm not sure of the titles of all of them, but oen is something like Concert at Crescendo, another is Louis Armstrong and His All Stars, and the other i can't remember. All for $25AU! I've been told they have small scratches on so if they don't work properly i'll get a full refund.
Any other Louis Armstrong fans here, and if so, are you familiar with any of the works i've just mentioned? What are your favourites?

	You can't beat a bit of Satchmo! I'm not really familiar with his catalogue, but I own a couple of "Best of"s - and dig them out every now and again for some serious grinnin'

	The man was a gem! If you like his playing and singing, try getting some of his recordings with Ella Fitzgerald: there was a true potentiation between them...

	Love the Hot Five and Sevens band he played with early in his career....Columbia records did a seven or eight CD series of that band and every one that I've heard has been a gas! Sachmo was more influential to popularizing jazz in an era when jazz was seen as the devil's own! Can't say enough about ol' Sach!

	I agree with Nacho!! "Ella & Louis sing Gershwin",for example,is a great album..

	He is THE MYTH of jazz... Listen to "Hobo, you can't ride this train", a little piece full of swing and irony (Twenties recordings are the best, and also try to listen to late fourty recordings with the IMMENSE Jack Teagarden)

	You may have heard him and not realised. He sang the theme for the James Bond film "On her majesty's secret service" ("We have all the time in the world"). Great song too.

	Yeah his voice is unique, as soon as i saw some more of his song titles i realised i had heard him before. I got the Records yesterday. I've only had the chance to listen to one (Under The Stars i believe it's called) so far, but i've very happy with it Despite having lots of scratches it plays very well. I'm not sure how old it is. The other two are from 1947 and 1955 or something so we'll see about those soon enough
