^ Okay, then, Lame-Os, it was from Toronto Tontos, by Max Webster.Angry

Glad you didn't Google -- what an honourable (if a bit scanty on classic Canadian art rock) bunch of progholes you all are!Clap

Friends are crowding you out."

Keep the lyrics game alive, guys (and ladies?)! Any hints, Peter? But what would hints help; if you don't know it, you don't know it. Meanwhile here's a new one (in a way current in the Archives!)

"We sleep in the mornings, we dream of a ship that sails away

a thousand miles away"

Spider And I - Eno

"Turn a mountain send them lost
among the flowers of the young"

ErmmWell, I'm sure many here know the lines I quoted (Maani, for one), but they don't play this game (too busy talking to trolls and responding to best/worst/love/hate polls, I supposeWink).

OK, here's your hint: See my avatar.

Good luck!Smile

We now have two passages unsolved. According to Peter's hint his is Nektar (avatar is Recycled) which I sadly haven't heard much. Nor do I know the one by T.Rox. Here they are:

"Soon, through word passed by mouth, friends are crowding you out."

"Turn a mountain send them lost
among the flowers of the young"

A clue! This song is from a solo work by a member of YES

"Without prog, life would be a mistake."

I have to admit I googled it, but... Brian Eno - "Spider and I"  How the cover art of Recycled by Nektar is a clue, I haven't divined. (Unless it was Brian Eno's cousin's roommate's uncle's best friend who did the cover art)

Spider And I - Brian Eno

Spider and I sit watching the sky
On a world without sound
We knit a web to catch one tiny fly
For our world without sound
We sleep in the mornings
We dream of a ship that sails away
A thousand miles away.

I think you will find the Nektar Recycled clue is about the lyrics...

"Soon, through word passed by mouth, friends are crowding you out."

...which is yet to be solved.

Also still to be solved...

"Turn a mountain send them lost
among the flowers of the young" is from 'Olias Of Sunhillow' album (Jon Anderson). I didn't recognize it at first, too long since I listened to it.

Okay, Peter, just tell the Nektar answer . Here's a new one:

"And king, old king George, sent Mother a note

when he heard that the father was gone

It was, I recall, in the form of a scroll, with gold leaf and all"

(If it seems difficult, just think of its contents!)

"When The Tigers Broke Free" - Pink Floyd

How about:

"But there's something he never told us,
It died when he went away.
If only he could have been with us,
No telling what he might say"

Costa del Sol - Nektar:

Soon, through word passed by mouth, friends are crowding you out."

I think this it the one we are still with, and it would be...

Portrait (He Knew) from Point Of Know Return by Kansas

Now, how about this one...

Fifteen was chosen because he was dumb
Seven because he was blind
I got the job because I was so mean
While somehow appearing so kind

"Without prog, life would be a mistake."

That's from the camp classic "Back in Judy's Jungle," by Eno.Clap

Try this:

"We are the 801, we are the central shaft

And we are here to let you take advantage of our lack of thought...."

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

Both from the same ENO album - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) - with the Peter's track being "The True Wheel"

next...

"Concealed his doubt
By skilful evasion
But he couldn't find out
About deception"

That's from Roxy Music's immortal love song to an inflatable mate, "The Bogus Man," of course.Cool

Now these lovely lines, from a great prog poet:

"Still waters flow -- sea breezes blow

Wild flowers grow abundant at your feet.

Soft falling snow -- warm candle glow

Flushed faces show the pleasures when we meet."

Edited by Peter

Ah, that's the first STRAWBS song I had a crush on: Autumn.  (Yes, Dave Cousins is great!)

"With my friends from Finland   ;)  I went down from Athens in the night

In a boat two pilgrims on a bench, to the island where the monkey's never shot"

It's not prog but I'm curious if any of you know them... (A fine continental band!)

The Night Owl - The Nits, from the album Giant Normal Dwarf.

(Got to admit to the use of google here...and the website I found had donkey instead of monkey! What are these guys like?)

next...

All words saying nothing the air is sour with discontent.
No returns have been tasted or are they ever sent.
Slowly burning is the fire, rising murmur breaks the old circle, the wheel slowly turns around.

"Without prog, life would be a mistake."
