I just looked at some great Italian Horror movies and there is an interesting connection to Italian Prog. Compred to English and American Horror movies there is something melancolic and poetic elements that you can find in the music as well. Some of the soundtracks were made by Prog Musicians. Goblin worked a lot with Dario Argento Suspiria, Profondo Rosso as did Keith Emerson for Inferno. My favouritye movies are Lisa and the devil and Suspiria.

Planet of the Vampires is a classic! But Suspiria is the one I'll watch most often.

I guess you could associate UK prog with more of a 60s/70s Hammer films vibe...a little hip, a little stuffy, often hallucinogenic and full of period pieces.

Suspiria is fantastic, on of my favourite scenes is, when she goes down the corridor in the school and suddenly you hear the "witch theme" and you see the old woman, the air is full of dust and her eye gets the reflction of the copper dish, so spooky and beautiful.

PROFONDO ROSSO was the most stunnig film of my teenage, i went to the cinema 3 times in a week and every time i saw it twice.

The Goblin soundtrack took me in heaven for a year ! But after that year i was terribly bored

Now i consider PROFONDO ROSSO one of the best thrillers ever (and not only in Italy)   ,

but Goblin...

P.S. The plot of  Planet of the Vampire is the same of Alien !!!!!!

The only one i have seen is Argento's Inferno. It was in finnish TV a few months ago. I was expecting something really bad but it wasn't that bad. Cult stuff! Music was by Emerson.

Interesting list...My vote will go for the guy who gave to european horror film a second life at the beginning of the 60s, Ricardo Freda...unfortunately you didn't mentionned I Vampiri

I would like to see Blue Holocaust by D'Amato on your list...Antonio Margharetti also made great horror movies during the 70s

No,i've never heard about it!! eurotrash belongs to my past...A few years ago I was really into 70s B movies made by Borowzyck, Franco, Deodato, Paul Morrissey...I really love what Morrissey have done for the Carlo Ponti production with his serie about Frankenstein and Dracula...strange, violent erotic kind a stuff...Udo Kier is really good in the main roles, a real pleasure!!!!

(vintage porn mixed with horror and black humour)

none prog bands made scores for eurotrash...I would like to see  Conrad Schnitzler, Klaus Dinger, Roedelius and others on the task.
