Progressive but not prog.

I think you've summed it up really well manunkind.

/\ Thanks

SOAD is a progressive band in that it is creative and original (although their second album contains some dangerously commercial songs and I hope they don't follow in that direction, or have they already?). It's definitely not prog, though. However, I have a very restrictive definition of what prog is (and I do believe that, as much as I love them, Radiohead shouldn't be here!)

They're definately a step in the right direction for the apathetic and uneducated youth of America. At least their lyrics and members are trying to convey something of topical importance, besides the rest of the mainstream rock bands that are a bunch of spoiled, whiny, hipster, white kids.

Peace & take care by the way

Well they are not a progrssive rock band, without a dubt, but they still have some kind of progresive-ish touch in their work, a little bit, little little bit. It is a great band, really powerful, and thre song themes are great really direct and well well build.

Grat band!

Chop Suey is the only song I really know by them, which has some sudden tempo changes, but not enough there for prog IMO...

i think they have some prog in their music, now if their next album had some way longer songs with a similar concept and style, it would definitely be prog

I bet it won't be like you describe, it will be a typical SOAD album again. Which is a good thing.

The length of the album doesn't matter.

Check out Adrian Belew's Side One, it's 31 minutes short.

Close, but no cigar.  definitely progressive elements.  I read a review of Mesmerize that called it "Amphetamine Prog", which definitely makes sense.  to call them nu-metal is definitely wrong, but it would also be wrong to call them prog rock.  theyre just weird, and thats ok.

They can be a little, little prog sometimes, just a little, almost nothing. But they are good for sure, really good.
