Little Feat - Dixie Chicken, Sailin' Shoes, Feets Dont
Fail Me Now are classics.
Leon Russell was a key part of the Wrecking Crew in
the late 60s....a bunch of LA session men who'd get
the call at all times of day to carry out the more
complex charts being laid down by pop/rock
bands....my fave LP from Leon is an LP called
"Carney" that was used as the soundtrack to the
movie of the same name and produced by Robbie
Robertson. Leon's best records where equal to the
best Elton John albums.
Leon Russell - Carney and LR and the Shelter
People are classics!
Ry Cooder is a conservative experimentalist....he
played on the Stones "Let It Bleed" LP and then
recorded some excellent LPs in the country-rock
vein....he even recorded an excellent LP of
depression era folk songs. Recently he's been into
Indian ragas (check out the "Meeting by the River" LP
with V. Bhatt), Cuban jazzy blues (Buena Vista Social
Club)....hell, he recorded a Hawaiian music LP
some years back called "Chicken Skin Music" that
opened up a whole generation to the slack stringed
style of the Hawaiian islands....the man's a credit to
musicians everywhere no matter what anyone may
think of him...
Ry Cooder - Jazz and Randy Newmans - 12 Songs
w/ Ry are classics.
JJ Cale has a nice mellow blues style....but, IMO, if
you've heard one JJ LP, you've heard 'em all....he's
the man responsible for Eric Clapton's descent from
guitar god soloist to laid back pop-blues.
Cocaine was written by JJ and his version sounds
better!
cant blame JJ for Eric love for his sound!
JJ Cale produced an album in the 90's Closer to You
that hints back to the prime period of rock and is
superior to most anything else produced in this time
period!
