Topic: System of a Down - close to prog? Posted: May 17 2005 at 09:56 |
Am I the only one to find that System of a Down's music has a hint of prog to it?
It certainly has nothing to do with what people call "nu-metal", it's
not even close to it. Their music is highly innovative and enjoyable,
and really fresh, I don't think I've ver heard anything quite like it.
It is of course metal, and some members dislike all metal.. but I think
metal can also be prog; just look at Strapping Young Lad!!

I totally messed up the poll.
The "Yes very much so" was supposed to be one of the options..
Well nevermind

How on earth can SOAD ever be considered prog? They're horrible nu-metal trash.

Aerials is probably about the only song that I've heard by them that
even comes vaguely close to being progalicious. It's nu-metal. They
might be a little different from what was the mainstream nu-metal, but
they definitely are nu-metal, and they're not progressive.

I lump SOAD in with Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit, because they are all utter sh*te! nu-metal crap.

Prog? No. There may be a hint, a very very very very slight bit of prog is a song or two, but not prog at all. But they are good, dispite popular opinion.

I'm with The hat man and Jim
I think they have very mild prog elements and are absolutely NOTHING like Linkin park and limp Bizkit .
I have just got the new album today in my lunch break and can't wait to get home to listen to it.

To not like them is if course OK, but to lump then in with Bizkit and Linkin Park etc. is just idiotic IMO. A deaf person or someone who knows absolutely nothing about metal music might do so, no one else. Which one are you spectral?

I'm deaf to bullsh1t music like system of a down; it makes my ears bleed. Songs like chop suey are just utter sh1te masquerading as "music."
Granted they're not as bad as linkin park or limp bizkit, but they're pretty bad, IMO. Which is what it comes down to, personal opinions.

I would say they have the potential and talent to become a progressive rock outfit. As of right now?....perhaps some hints of progressive in their music...one can only wait and hope and see what the future has in store for these guys.

if they can inject more prog into their music, then I would be open to listening to them again.
