Funny how few ever choose the moderate choice "I Don't Think So".

However, SOAD is definitely not prog.

Thanks for the childish and pointless personal attack.

I think they have very mild prog elements and are absolutely NOTHING like Linkin park and limp Bizkit .

I have just got the new album today in my lunch break and can't wait to get home to listen to it.

Well, IDK. From Linkin Park I get the sence they are trying to sorta copy porcupine tree's sound but with a twist (that twist would be there to make them popular) and I think it's horribly failing. But a couple of songs off of Meteora maybe hinting at prog. Or maybe there just there to seperate themselves from other artists, hell, IDK.

But I think SOAD is a tad bit prog. But not really. But ye- but not.

They are not progressive, yet their latest album has more than one prog element, specially the sudden changes and crazy drumms...

i Dont think that SOD is prog but I understand why you ask this question. I found that SOD have a original sound, and I think that's because they come from California. I dont like group from U.S.A. except californian bands, I've always found they have a special sound that is less rough (than others u.s bands) and more refined. Some examples : Red hot Chilli peppers, The Doors, Californian Guitar Trio, The Velvelt Underground, etc.

And by the way, I very like MEZMERIZE, the last one from SOD.

There Definetly an interesting band thats not shy of trying weird time changes and incorporating there mix of id say Thrash Metal,Prog,Hardcore Punk and when they get really silly the vocals remind me of Mr Bungle Or possibly some zappa but i still dont know if i would call them prog and i think if they tried making a long epic it would be pretty awful.

Long songs are not their thing - they pack their songs with so much stuff that an average 3 minutes of System of a Down has pretty much all the excitement and diversity of a 15-minute prog epic.

Mind you - Gentle Giant didn't do epics either. The song durations do not define whether a band is prog or not.

I'm still not saying SoaD should be included tho. I made this poll in the first place just out of interest to see if prog fans were interested in their music and/or considered them prog. The results are pretty clear, and apart from a few rubbish posts (and don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about your post  ) all the points you people have made have been very sensible!

i said it would be awful because somebody in a previous post said they would only be progresive if they made an epic or something on those lines

I don't think they're very good. To those of you who think they're somewhat prog, which songs would you recommend to anyone that disagrees?

Argh... Can a band do songs sightly different than the mainstream pop without being concidered prog? Why does everyone is seeing prog everywhere?

They are doing some original pop metal sh*t, but they aren't prog, they are not rock too. A lot of people can't accept a band like Dream Theater, so you all can imagine how soad would be welcomed here.

Vive le Québec libre!...
