Hi all,

As you can see, there is, on our site, descriptions about every bands of the discography.  It's still not complete yet. So we're looking for editors to help us to write them  .

Check the band/artist page in the website www.progarchives.com , ones that does not have BIO, display a message [BIOGRAPHY NOT COMPLETE]

Here is the template we use ...

  • 1st paragraph: Musicians, style - similar bands
  • 2nd paragraph: Describe the better cds without mentioning their songs
  • End with mention (recommended, highly recommended or not)
  • Special Notes: When using band name ... write them as UPPER CASE and album name must be between " " ex: MARILLION "Brave" .

If you know very much on music and that you'd like to write, contact us : http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_PRO GARCHIVES.asp#contact

Don't you think Frank Zappa (or at least The Mothers) and Captain Beefheart also deserve to be on the website. I mean, they made prog-rock before someone even realised there could be something like progressive rock! On the Gibraltar-pages they are included!

Great to hear that!!! I'm so glad that he'll be added! I look forward to reviewing my favourite FZ albums.

By the way: do you really think Savatage should be included here? I think they make great heavy metal, but don't you think it's a bit too straight-forward to be called prog? I mean, the album Sad Wings Of Destiny from Judas Priest deserves to be called prog, but Savatage??

I have to apologise for what I said yesterday. Savatage DOES deserve to be on this website! The problem (for me) was: I always loved their first album, Sirens. And you can say what you want, but that is not prog-metal, BUT yesterday I played their last record, Poets And Madmen. I always thought it was a very dark and depressing record, but yesterday I found out I didn't like the record immediately because it is much more complex than Sirens. Poets And Madmen contains great prog-metal and I'm going to review it right away!

i wonder about David Bowie, the real promoter of almost everything nowadays, and a band called ESPERANTO, i heard a record of them and ... WWOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!, i think they came from England, but really, i wish  you could find something else, and, well, i know certain information about peter gabriel and chroma key... so, i´ll be gald to help to improve the website and the prog culture... although, i know is another realm, but you should mention the existense of fusion-rock-jazz, like Al di Meola, Niacin, and other bands that touches the prog side of the music

Hey, philippe!

Have you listened to their latest album 'Poets And Madmen' yet? It's great! And prog too!

I you don't have that one, download the song 'Morphine Child', it's beautiful!

(but I agree with you that their early work is not progressive)

SAVATAGE have not played ONLY "Symp Prog Metal" but at PROG ARCHIVES we only add COMPLETE DISCOGRAPHY of BAND , even if they did not played PROG on all of their CDs. During the 90s, SAVATAGE creted some GREAT Prog Metal album , The Wake of Magellan is a REAL GEM !

I have add some MP3 to the Prog Archives Savatage Page here:
http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_BAN D.asp?band_id=847

Any band suggestions Philippe ?

Yes...I think that you forget to mention plenty old experimental and psych/ folk prog stuffs as Carol of harvest, Kalacakra, Ougenweide, Eroc, Mythos, DOM...these are real prog!!! Not an imitation (cf: the new boring prog metal scene). For me metal music dosen't fit to prog arrengements...cause of the mucky incompetence of the musicians and their lack of roots (artistically speaking)...you can't say let's turn to prog rock to become a prog rock band...it's not enough to put keybords in music to be called prog
