Basically, I put PH togheter the proto prog bands, but there's an important point: PH released their first album in 1967, and it was absolutely progressive for that era. If that album would be made after 1970, couldn't be so interesting. Any topic in this world -not only prog music- must be situated inside the historical context.

HI, THIS IS CÉSAR INCA.
"I definitely consider them prog, though they played and created a kind of prog that somehow got stuck in some past cliches, and didn't evolve into some spiral of increasing complexity... but yes, I label them as prog, and it doesn't mean that I have to like some band's music because it is prog, or that being prog is the best thing you can do as a musician. I just look at the whole picture, their recurrent concerns for exploring the various possibilities implied in mixing rock, classical, blues, while incorporating some other stuyff ocassionally for the sake of enriching their own musical statement... and the labels 'art rock' and 'prog rock' come to my mind."
In short, despite the fact that they didn't experience dramatic and over-challenging evolving phases, amd they were extremely loyal to the song-formta thing, still they were prog. That kind of finesse, diversity, intellectual drive, doesn't belong in "normal" rock'n'rolll (and there's nothing worng with rock'n'roll per se).
Regards.

As starter of that topic and as holder of the “Non-prog” motion upon the Procol Harum controversy, I obviously voted “NO”! So far I’m the only one appealing to that “NO Prog” thing… maybe you are trying to sabotage me! Ha-ha-ha
Great poll by the way!

Exactly correct Marcelo.
It's sad that there are so many people unable to extend their appreciation of the context of what has gone before their own personal experience past the tip of their own nose.

Strange kind of prog' but prog at the end.
They mix Art Rock, Dutch Euro Prog, Canterbury, Symphonic, etc. A good B class progressive band that blended too many influences and never had a 100% defined personality.
Have you ever noticed that some of their songs seem like soundtracks of a porn movie? A not proghead friend told me that once and I laughed, but after listening some of their tunes I noticed he wasn't totally wrong.

Kind of. They recorded that 17 minute track In Held Twas I from their second album Shine On Brightly. Transatlantic did a cover of it.

How can it be that 132 people have voted? I don't believe we have that many (note: ACTIVE) members!

People shouldn't be allowed to vote more than once. It skews the results.

I really do not know! However, if I am correct anybody who visit this page can vote...not necessarily just active members; however, active members are able to post a reply?!...Maybe we should ask Max....now I am .
For the most part, when I cast a vote on one poll, next time that I check on it.... I cannot vote again; or at least the web site will not allow it!..or this is just me?
Anyway, the response has been great…Thanks for your collaboration and ideas.
Have a wonderful prog day and summer!!!!
