I had so much fun with that first one that I'm going to do another for one of my second favorite bands:  Genesis.

Favorite album:  The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

Favorite song:  In the Cage (Once again, I prefer a few songs over this, notably Supper's Ready and Firth of Fifth, but this is my favorite from Lamb.)

Favorite member:  Peter Gabriel (duh)

Favorite cover art:

Favorite live song:  The live version of Musical Box, because it's a brilliant song, and is more listenable than the terribly mixed studio version.

Favorite solo:  Tony in Firth of Fifth

Favorite Lyrics:  Supper's Ready, but they're too long to post here.  I like these, too:

Echoes of the broadway everglades,
With her mythical madonnas still walking in their shades:
Lenny bruce, declares a truce and plays his other hand.
Marshall mcluhan, casual viewin’, head buried in the sand.
Sirens on the rooftops wailing, but there’s no ship sailing.
Groucho, with his movies trailing, stands alone with his punchline
Failing.
Klu klux klan serve hot soul food and the band plays ’in the mood’
The cheerleader waves her cyanide wand, there’s a smell of
Peach blossom and bitter almonde.
Caryl chessman sniffs the air and leads the parade, he knows
In a scent, you can bottle all you made.
There’s howard hughes in blue suede shoes, smiling at the
Majorettes smoking winston cigarettes.
And as the song and dance begins, the children play at home
With needles; needles and pins.

Brilliantly clever!

Favorite reason:  They sound like Yes, but with less tasteless, self-indulgent soloing!

Oh yeah, and they have both the best frontman and best concept album to their name.

Favourite Lyrics From Favourite Band:

A Farewell To Kings

When they turn the pages of history
When these days have passed long ago
Will they read of us with sadness
For the seeds that we let grow
We turned our gaze
From the castles in the distance
Eyes cast down
On the path of least resistance

Cities full of hatred
Fear and lies
Withered hearts
And cruel, tormented eyes
Scheming demons
Dressed in kingly guise
Beating down the multitude
And scoffing at the wise

The hypocrites are slandering
The sacred halls of Truth
Ancient nobles showering
Their bitterness on youth
Can't we find
The minds that made us strong
Can't we learn
To feel what's right and wrong

Cities full of hatred
Fear and lies
Withered hearts
And cruel, tormented eyes
Scheming demons
Dressed in kingly guise
Beating down the multitude
And scoffing at the wise
Can't we raise our eyes
And make a start
Can't we find the minds
To lead us closer to the Heart

Favourite Reason For Loving Favourite Band: Dude....it's Rush!!

I'll leave my mainstream preferences (Genesis, Peter Gabriel Pink Floyd) to pitch another fave of mine:

Favourite Band:
Favourite Album From Favourite Band: Merlin, Bard of the Unseen

Favourite Member of Favourite Band: Cindy Oudshoorn (guest vocals)
Favourite Cover Art From Favourite Band:

Favourite Live Song From Favourite Band: Chance for a life time

Who cares for the nameless so far from home.

Favourite Reason For Loving Favourite Band: to my taste they made more 10/10 songs than any other band.

Favourite Band: Gentle Giant
Favourite Album From Favourite Band: In a Glass House
Favourite Song From Favourite Album: Experience
Favourite Member of Favourite Band: Kerry Minnear
Favourite Cover Art From Favourite Band:

Favourite Live Song From Favourite Band: I'll have to wait until Aug. 23rd to be able to answer that (the release of the remastered Playing the Fool)

Favourite Lyrics From Favourite Band:
There coming over Charaton Bridge
Look do you see the man who is poor
  but rich.
What do you wish; and where do you go;
Who are you; where are you from:
will you tell me your name?
Rest awhile; call me your friend.
Please stay with me I'd like to help.
Then he said,
How can I speak when I'm dry and my
throat is burning. So bring me aid
and I'll answer your doubts.
Friend in need I'd like your help
Please take me home I'll stay with you.
Then said he fair Pantagruel
My name is Panurge and I have come
  from Hell.
Look at my friend
Look all around you
Look at my friend
Take all round you.
Hey, Friend
(Improvised foreign words in middle
section)
So brotherhood was made as their bond
Carried him home and provide for his
  needs
and his shelter; this day was done
as no other the like.
Faithfully their vow was made and from
that day they were as one.

Favourite Reason For Loving Favourite Band: Absolutely no one else sounds like them; brilliant, complex but completely unpretentious
Your life or your lupins!!!

Because it's a little hard to do Mike Oldfield (not having much good material live, and, being only one person, question 4 becomes a bit redundant ) and everyone else has already done Yes, Genesis, and Gentle Giant, I shall do another band which, although not my all-time desert-island favourite, is pretty dang good nonetheless:

Favourite Band: Jethro Tull
Favourite Album From Favourite Band: Heavy Horses (but there are close seconds, thirds, fourths and fifths)
Favourite Song From Favourite Album: Weathercock. Or Rover.
Favourite Member of Favourite Band: (Obviously) Ian Anderson.
Favourite Cover Art From Favourite Band:

Because there's so much to look at and read on the original LP (which folds out like a newspaper) that it really was worth hunting down.
Favourite Live Song From Favourite Band: I think they did a neat re-do of Beethoven's 9th sometime in the 70's - it was the second movement, and one of my favourite parts therein, and it was Tull redoing a classical thing, so I was like, "holy crap! This is clearly beyond awesome!" Then I discovered ELP and Steve Vai and realised that this 'borrowing-from-classical-music' sort of thing wasn't rare. But all the same.
Favourite Solo From Favourite Band: Flute Solo from Locomotive Breath (from Aqualung). That right there is what took me in.
Favourite Lyrics From Favourite Band: Several! But I think The Story of the Hare who Lost His Spectacles (from A Passion Play) wins out of its sheer pointlessness (and thus its necessity):

This is the story of the hare who lost his spectacles.
Owl loved to rest quietly whilst no one was watching.
Sitting on a fence one day, he was surprised when suddenly a kangaroo ran close by.
Now this may not seem strange, but when Owl overheard Kangaroo whisper to no one in particular,
"The hare has lost his spectacles," well, he began to wonder.

Presently, the moon appeared from behind a cloud and there, lying on the grass was hare.
In the stream that flowed by the grass a newt.
And sitting astride a twig of a bush a bee.

Ostensibly motionless, the hare was trembling with excitement,
for without his spectacles he appeared completely helpless.
Where were his spectacles? Could someone have stolen them? Had he mislaid them? What was he to do?

Bee wanted to help, and thinking he had the answer began:
"You probably ate them thinking they were a carrot."
"No!" interrupted Owl, who was wise.
"I have good eye-sight, insight, and foresight.
How could an intelligent hare make such a silly mistake?"
But all this time, Owl had been sitting on the fence, scowling!

A Kangaroo were hopping mad at this sort of talk.
She thought herself far superior in intelligence to the others.
She was their leader, their guru. She had the answer:
"Hare, you must go in search of the optician."
But then she realized that Hare was completely helpless without his spectacles.
And so, Kangaroo loudly proclaimed, "I can't send Hare in search of anything!"
"You can, guru, you can!" shouted Newt.
"You can send him with Owl."
But Owl had gone to sleep.
Newt knew too much to be stopped by so small a problem
"You can take him in your pouch."
But alas, Hare was much too big to fit into Kangaroo's pouch.

All this time, it had been quite plain to Hare that the others knew nothing about spectacles.

As for all their tempting ideas, well Hare didn't care.
The lost spectacles were his own affair.
And after all, Hare did have a spare a-pair.
A-pair.

Favourite Reason For Loving Favourite Band: I used to listen to these guys when I was just a kid (an even smaller neutrino!). Part of it is that they're *good*, and they had a flute as a main instrument which I thought was kind of cool, but the other part is just sentimentalism. My friends grew up with New Kids on the Block - I grew up with Tull.  So that's what happened to me!

Ahhh ... too much fun. Great idea, Mr. Press!!

Favourite Lyrics From Favourite Band:  mostly all of them, but oh well.....

Squonk

Like father like son
Not flesh nor fish nor bone
A red rag hangs from an open mouth.
Alive at both ends but a little dead in the middle,
A-tumbling and a-bumbling he will go.
All the King's horses and all the King's men
Could never put a smile on that face.

He's a sly one, he's a shy one
Wouldn't you be too.
Scared to be left all on his own.
Hasn't a, hasn't a friend to play with, the Ugly Duckling
The pressure on, the bubble will burst before our eyes.
All the while in perfect time
His tears are falling on the ground
BUT IF YOU DON'T STAND UP YOU DON'T STAND A CHANCE.

Go a little faster now, you might get there in time.

Mirror mirror on the wall,
His heart was broken long before he ever came to you.
Stop your tears from falling,
The trail they leave is very clear for all to see at night
all to see at night.

In season, out of season
What's the difference when you don't know the reason.
In one hand bread, the other a stone.
The Hunter enters the forest.
All are not huntsmen who can blow the huntsman's horn
By the look of this one you've not got much to fear.

Here I am, I'm very fierce and frightening
Come to match my skill to yours.
Now listen here, listen to me, don't you run away now
I am a friend, I'd really like to play with you.
Making noises my little furry friend would make
I'll trick him, then I'll kick him into my sack.
You better watch out... You better watch out.

I've got you, I've got you, you'll never get away.

Walking home that night
The sack across my back, the sound of sobbing on my shoulder.
When suddenly it stopped,
I opened up the sack, all that I had
A pool of bubbles and tears - JUST A POOL OF TEARS.

All in all you are a very dying race
Placing trust upon a cruel world.
You never had the things you thought you should have had
And you'll not get them now,
And all the while in perfect time
Your tears are falling on the ground.

The Squonk is of a very retiring disposition and due to its ugliness,
weeps constantly. It is easy prey for hunters who simply
follow a tear-stained trail. When cornered it will dissolve itself into tears.

True or False?

Favourite Reason For Loving Favourite Band:  Genesis has the most identifiable sound, and combines excellent songwriting and musicianship with deep, meaningful lyrics and moving instrumental passages.  The music of Genesis takes me to places where no other can.

If you don't stand up
You don't stand a chance!

Favourite Member of Favourite Band: Angus Young
Favourite Cover Art From Favourite Band:
Favourite Live Song From Favourite Band: Bad Boy Boogie

Favourite Lyrics From Favourite Band:

Two faced woman with the two faced lies
I hope your two faced living made you satisfied
Tell me baby I was your only one
While you've been running around town with every mother's son

Told your story about the women like you
Told your story about the things you do
I used to think that you were sugar and spice
I should've listened to my mother's advice

CHORUS:
Kicked in the teeth again
Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win
Kicked in the teeth again
Ain't this misery ever gonna end?
And I've been kicked in the teeth
Kicked in the teeth again

Two faced woman, such a crying shame
Don't know nothing, you're all the same
You run around, hope you had your fun
You never know who's gonna win till the race been run

Favourite Reason For Loving Favourite Band: Angus young's energy on stage, Bon's/ Brian's vocals and the fact that it's straight up rock n roll. I love prog n all but it's nice to listen to this sort of stuff once in a while.
