I rarely buy records without knowing beforehand what it's about. But I feel that the cover has a tiny influence on how I like the record, for instance the Steve Hillage record "Motivation Radio" has a horribe cover, and I feel I would like it a bit better if it had a more interesting cover!

I bought lots based just on the cover, and was rarely disappointed. on
the contrary, many of my favorite bands were discovered that way

must admit...I've been fooled by some of Roger Deans covers myself. He
is responsible for a lot of dross in my old (sadly sold off) record
collection.
Don't want to sound like an old git...but it's really not the
same listening to music without a good old L.P. cover to check out!!

I don't think I ever have. I always know at least a little about the cd before I buy it.

I admit I've never done that before. I've done it with books though, and ended up with some real crap and some ... even worse crap. They're right when they tell you not to judge the book by its cover, man.
But what I have done is, and what I continue to do, is buy music (LPs and CDs - though really cheap CDs) based on the name alone. Which is just as bad as buying stuff because it looks nice.
On the other hand, that's how I got into Yes, and Tull, and ELP, Rush (incidentally it was Hemispheres as well!!), and Mike Oldfield. So ... I dunno. I must just be really really lucky not to pick the sucky albums when randomly buying.

Covers kick ass but I gotta say that they're just a bonus. That Greenslade cover is awesome. You can tell that's Dean's work(it actually looks like a modified green version of Demons and Wizards).
Much love to all, and may progression continue but without losing sight of morals and purpose, without one, the other is useless.

I've never bought CDs based on the cover, but I have bought one book without so much as reading the back. I just read the title, "Market Forces" and bought it. I'm reading it right now, it's brilliant!

I'm glad you did well with it then - it never seems to work with me. I picked up something that looked neat but was total crap! About Casanova and Lord Byron and this fictional painter who was both their lovers ... it was like a fanfiction on history and the author just inserted herself into the mix to make things tonnes worse. And then tried to compensate for it by making Casanova's cat talk and give feline opinions about things. On the upside, at least her facts about the history were right.
