Could somebody read my review of Genesis - Seconds Out? I think it's one of my best so far. Tell me what you think, it's on the front page, or you can find it under the name 'Publius' on it's archive page.

Haha. Definitely agree with that one. It's kind of hard to listen to without Hackett's presence.

It was well written although I don't agree with you on several points .
I happened to see both 1976 and 1977 tours with Genesis and had Suppers Ready. Robbery, Asault and Battery while not one of my favorite songs was very well played and no one was not enjoying it. As for the electric piano in the Lamb although Tony played the studio version on a Piano he did not tour with an acoustic piano. His RMI electric one has 61 keys and can and did sound muddy in the mix. It is also the reason the intro to Firth of Fith was rarely played live. Trying to transpose a technical piece like that from 88 keys to 61 keys would be a nightmare. It is not on the Archive version with Gabriel either. I agree with the guitar not being in the mix enough though.
Not bad at all.

Cheers

Yeah I can see how it would be difficult to cart a piano round and I know the difficulty of playing things like that on smaller keyboards. It's impossible, if there ain't enough notes, then you can't play it lol

i disagree with you.  I think it is definitely a 4 star album but not 5 or 3.  Collins makes a fine performance, and I dont know what mix you were listening to, but my copy is the original vinyl and sounds just brilliant.  perhaps the drums sound different to you because there are times when there are 2 drummers playing simultaneously.

Along with ELP's "Welcome Back" and GG's "Playing the Fool," "Seconds Out" is among the best live prog albums ever recorded.  Period.

Peace.

I agree with all this except that Welcome Back is rubbish and Playing The Fool is torturous.

Yep 'Seconds Out' is my fave live album of all, but I'd also say 'Exit Stage Left' and 'Yessongs' are among the best too.

I can't rate with 4 stars an album that has been mutilated.

It's incredible how they almost vanished Steve Hackett out of the mix using the volume, it's a crime.

Has great songs like the best version of I Know What I Like or Robbery Assault and Battery but the version of Supper's Ready is a joke.

And I hate the way Collins keeps repeating words (And the Lamb, Lies Down, Down, Down, Down...) it's simply annoying.

IMO 3 stars is ok.

Iván

Re: Seconds Out. I think Phil Collins extended drum solo at the time was considered to be something of a masterpiece.
What would be the consensus here about that?
