Actually, this thread is starting to seriously depress me! I don't think about the performer's age (or my age) when going to a classical, jazz, world music or whatever concert, but I must admit that I do when it's rock music. Rock is associated with youth, and I - as a middle aged person myself - do feel slightly, shall we say uneasy, when seeing how old - and out of shape - some of the heroes of my youth are (the same applies to me!). What I would give to be 18 again!

Ugly dragqueens.  Same kind of visions of "men" stare me from the booklet of "Images and words" album.

And in what case has the opposite applied?

Well, as a woman I have to admit some of these people really look ugly. However, many people are just not photogenic (I'm one of them, and so are many friends of mine) - and I think it's quite mean to make fun of people who don't look their best because they're no longer young. The only way not to get older is to die, and I don't think any of us really relishes the alternative.

That said, I've recently seen a pic of Carl Palmer, who at 54 looks much better than he did in his youth. Emerson doesn't look bad either for 60, while Lake was not that good-looking as a young man too. Anyway, the three of them have aged better than John Wetton or David Gilmour, who were dashingly handsome in their youth, and look at them now...

I don't give a flying one about ugliness/beauty when it comes to music, but it is always interesting to see how the prog heroes look like today. Gentle Giant's John Weathers (front left) Gary Green (front middle) and Kerry Minnear (front right) with some fans in 2002.

peace out!

I don't think these guys are what you could call progressive, but I don't think they come much worse looking than them.

I, can't name any one who I think is BAD, every band has there own sound and he should respect it.Even if it sounds like @#^#

No he hasn't, except he now looks to be about 20 years old instead of 14.

In the Canterbury world:

Daevid Allen is looking more and more like a crazy space hobo.

Later Soft Machine was a crazy bunch (but Mike Ratledge

 is seriously cool):

And You Have to love Robert Wyatt (Robert Wyatt = Prog Hero):

old, wheelchair bound and still kicking gotta love the man!
