So you ride yourselves over the fields and
You make all your animal deals and
Your wise men don't know how it feels to be thick as a brick.
And I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I
don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying?
There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime.
I never said I was frightened of dying.

I dig Jethro in the 70's. Benefit is not to be ignored. Minstrel, the brick, and Songs from the wood are each remarkably original, my least favorite being Aqualung( it has to be the over-played factor, for the album itself stands mightily when compared  to it's rock peers) Tull deserves it's standing as one of prog's greatest bands.

A Passion Play was the Tull album that really grabbed me. TAAB is a close second.

Another favourite is the underrated Warchild.

Thick as a Brick is their masterpiece.

Aqualung, Benefit, Minstrel, Passion Play, Songs from the Woods, Heavy Horses are all masterpieces of folk-prog-rock as well though.

They're all great albums by a great band, but my fave is Aqualung followed by Thick as a Brick.

The 'best' has to be Thick as a Brick....but my favorite--Aqualung.  Tull entered the progressive realms with this album and it was the first were Anderson's lyrics take center stage.  I prefer it to TaaB because they still had the bluesy element, mixed in with some folk, and Barre's guitar (and Anderson's acoustic) was still the main attraction musically.

People -- what have you done --
locked Him in His golden cage.
Made Him bend to your religion --
Him resurrected from the grave.
He is the god of nothing --
if that's all that you can see.
You are the god of everything --
He's inside you and me.
So lean upon Him gently
and don't call on Him to save you
from your social graces

If you don't stand up
You don't stand a chance!
