Both great bands but Genesis edge it for me.

Floyd by far, and their first 2 albums (especially Piper at the Gates of Dawn) are by far my favourites and are well above moderate, though I do agree with the latter ones.

Genesis, in a landslide.

Floyd just kind of spaces out at times and I loses interest for me.

Genesis never loses my interest.

Pink Floyd, by far if you compare it with all Genesis albums. If only Gabriel albums.... why compare!?

Pink Floyd, but slightly.

Genesis has never reached such artistic peaks as Pink Floyd's Echoes, Shine on You, and The Wall.

Genesis had never been very good at being pop and accessible ... Pink Floyd does, with The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You were here (the song), etc.

But Genesis has better musicianship and more beauty in their instrumentations.

Hmm... Pink Floyd. Honestly, what can beat Dark side of the Moon? But I will give genesis (atleast during Gabriels/early collins era) the lyrics. They rocked. But looking at the angles you presented... The Piper at the Gates of dawn and A saucer full of secrets vs, Fom Genesis to revelation and Tresspass. Tresspass puts up a fight, but I have to give it to Pink floyd. I did like Ummagumma to Meddle, but not nearly my favorites.

Well, looking at the best selling albums by the two Artists with there "classic" lineup... Dark side of the moon, wish you were here, animals, and the wall, (would include the final cut but PF considers that a more Roger Waters album titled as pink floyd...) vs Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling england by the pund, and The Lamb lies down on Broadway. Thats what makes it really close. As albums as a whole, I preferd Genesis, But pink Floyd has some of my favorite songs, ever. (I.E. Shine on you crazy diamond, Comfortably numb, etc.) and the only genesis song to me atleast that can match up if not beat those is Supper's Ready.

After the classic Line up, I have to give it to genisis because they atleast kept up for a while until duke. And pink floyd really lost they're sound. But as for ending, Pink Floyd, all the way, Phill collins doing Disney, Genesis going to commercial/pop entirley against they're previous sound, broken up after a horrible selling album, Pink Floyd, Back together after twenty years doing an amazing performance of they're best hit's for a Live 8 benifet. Now what can beat that, and also, Once they relized they lost the sound they stopped writing new stuff.  Smart choice, Gilmour!

Both bands have put out some excellent prog albums. I feel that Genesis' are more important to the history of prog and probably better(on a prog scale) than floyds.
I'll see you on the Darkside of the moon...

Oh, no,I don't want to choose from these two...

Well,I'll go with Pink Floyd, for three reasons:

1)They're better...
2)I like Gabriel Solo more than Genesis, and Pink Floyd is better than Gabriel Solo,so:

         &nbs p;   Pink Floyd>Gabriel Solo>Genesis

3)Genesis messed up after Duke,Pink Floyd continues up to present to be (almost) spotless...

Genesis by a mile. I never liked Floyd much. Never thought they were that progressive and their songs tend to drag on.

Of course, I dislike Genesis after 1981. I'm all for the Peter Gabriel-era stuff. I'm not saying that Floyd isn't progressive I'm just saying I never thought they were. I just don't get it. I guess if you consider space rock progressive as the style than it is, but when you consider a lot of Floyds' stuff and than compare it to Yes or Genesis, it doesn't seem progressive at all to me. It seems like those bands were miles ahead. Keep in mind it's only my opinion. I would love to listen to Floyd thinking that their music is progressive and that some of their albums are masterpieces but nothing yet has convinced me.

Pink Floyd are just too self-conscious to be convincing in the long run. Genesis has the benefit of having contributed more original music together and in separate entities than PF. Even Steve Hackett alone, I believe, has a better discography (more originality and wider spectrum) than PF, now add to that Ant Phillips, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Banks, Rutherford and you have a discography that easily eats up whatever PF and their solo records ever created. The world was affected more by the presence of Genesis and its members than PF and its members. Of course I am also a Gen-head so who cares what I think :-)

I dont understand what so many people have against the "final cut" I have not heard the whol album yust some songs but thos songs sounded very good and im planing to buy the album very soon.

Genesis never makes me even half as exited as PF does, many of PF songs gives me the shiver no genesis song have ever made me feel that, theyr 2 completly diffrent band Genesis goes for a pop sound and tryes to sound funny, while PF have more serius and dramatic and atmosphric sound, Genesis most of the times i lisen to them doesnt make me feel anything i cant even desied if its good or bad realy and i hope that it will grow on me but it never does, most of it yust sounds dull and boring, sorry...

as for genesis...they have some glittering,as skillful as their musical-nowheres.I can dance, invisible touch, sledgehammer, barely prog...

I think you'll find that Sledgehammer is a Peter Gabriel song!

Genesis at their best are miles better than the soporific Floyd. Admittedly they went downhill after Hackett left, but Trespass - Wind And Wuthering are all fantastic.
