It just goes to show there were a lot of kids whose parents called them Steve in the 50s and 60s. I knew loads when I was at school, sadly none of them grew up to be famous guitarists.

Good point. The same happened in several periods here: During times of war many kids were named "Savas" (the second "s" has a little sign under it, pronounced "savash", which means "War") and many, including those born just after the war were named "Baris" (again, "s" has a little comma under it. Do I need to tell the meaning?!?!?) I had a plenty of friends named Baris during elementary and high school days, just because of the fact that Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974, and named it "Cyprus Peace Operation"!!! (I am '75'er) Greeks may well have known about this operation. I don't know why it influenced the social life so much... Anyway, coming back to the Steves, what do you think that influenced the naming trend so much, and more importantly, what caused all these Steves (with the exception of Hogarth and Walsh) to become great guitarists?!?!? Moogtron III, I saw your thread and already responded! I am ahead of you with a couple of names (albeit cheating on Walsh and Hogarth!), and my thread started a slightly different way... |

Another name that's worth considering is John. Here's a list of a number of bassists: John Myung (Dream Theater) John Jowitt (IQ/Arena) John Deacon (Queen) John McVie (Fleetwood Mac) Jon Jeary (Threshold) Johnny Lee Middleton (Savatage) And you can add Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) and Steve Ramsey (Skyclad) to the Steve guitarist list. |

I was pretty sure there was a big name missing from my list, but I couldn't think who it was. Thanks for reminding me. Two more additions: Steve Clark (Def Leppard) and John Patitucci |
