tuxon:
Please re-read my post. It is clear from what preceded it that the betrayal I feel is not from you (with whom I admittedly disagree), but from Max and Rony.
Peace.

Today on As the World Turns Progressively:
Max and Rony decided that Queen would be a perfect addition for the site, but forgot to tell the ever vengeful Maani, who treated it as a betrayel. Meanwhile, Tuxon and Certified were busy scheming on how to do justice with a biography and Maani began the forward march with the Queen should not be here threads. Others began to join in, and the great war of the Queen began...
Next week:
With all the heat and intensity of battle, Maani is put into a coma by the anger and betrayel he feels. And Tuxon reveals that he has been secretly switching places with a twin while Certified tries to patch up a failing relationship, only to realize that she is pregnant....
That is this week's episode of As the World Turns Progressively.

Except that Tuxon, CertiFied, James Lee and over the last few months, Trotsky have been scheming quite openly and publicly ... almost as if it wasn't a villanious plan!
But I do enjoy the humour CX-2 ... keep it coming ..

Proglover:
You need not "shout": even at my most upset, I never resort to shouting.
You keep repeating that "there are no progressive groups, only progressive music." That is a nice slogan, but it is irrelevant. That is not the premise upon which the site was founded, nor is it the premise upon which the site has been administrated and maintained. If you believe that slogan, you are, of course, free to start your own site based on it. However, that slogan was never the slogan for Prog Archives, much less the "vision" upon which the site was founded.
This site was founded on the premise that there are progressive groups, within the various subgenres that the webmasters decided, at their sole discretion (which they have a right to do, since it is their website), represented the various subgenres of the overall genre known as "prog." Yes, "progressive music" is also made by bands for whom the label "prog" may not actually be appropriate - again, based on the criteria that the webmasters have, at their sole discretion, chosen as the criteria for being "prog" and for inclusion on the site.
It was, of course, the webmasters' intention to "grow" the site and add bands along the way. After all, no one - not even closed-minded Maani - wants the site to stagnate or be seen as "elitist," including only "seminal" prog bands and those influenced by them.
The question is how those additions should be - were to be - made, based on the vision and criteria articulated consistently by the webmasters. The problem that has developed is twofold. One, that the webmasters have become inconsistent in their vision and criteria. Two, that the webmasters foolishly - and I make no apology for that word - started permitting members to add bands and albums to the site. Whatever the reason for this - because the webmasters no longer had the time to do all the selecting, or because they wanted the members to feel more "included" in the process, or a combination, or something else - it was ill-considered, and has now come back to bite them.
I still support Max and Rony's vision for Prog Archives as they have articulated it to me quite often. And I understand that, since it is their site, they have a right to change their minds. However, having said nothing about planning to do so, and having instituted a process the result of which would inevitably lead to problems like the current one, the degree to which they have changed or modified their vision and criteria is, as someone else put it, a "watershed moment" for the site, a "sea change" in direction, and a mistake that, if not reversed or corrected, will inevitably lead to a serious "watering down" of the "prog" in Prog Archives.
Peace.
P.S. Next week on "As the World Turns Progressively": In his wrath, Maani sends a mega-powerful worm through the website to all the members, which causes "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions" to play on every members' computer in an endless loop that prevents both the shutting down or rebooting of their computers, or the turning off of their speakers...

With all due respect maani, I disagree with you....Progressive bands do not exist...however, there are bands who at ONE TIME in their career wrote progressive MUSIC.....and no sir, my "slogan" as you so eloquently put it, is certainly not irrelevant...........My "slogan" puts the focus where it rightfully should be, instead of on some silly doctrine which inhibits and excludes.....My slogan focuses on MUSIC and not politics, or ideology, or bias, or prejudice......Oh and by the way, you FORGOT to respond in regards to my comments on Phil Collins and Robert Fripp...speaking of which......we have become like our classical cousins....HOLDING ON TO THE PAST, building in our glass houses shrines to a genre of music that many of our "prog heros" have distanced themselves from.
Robert Fripp has ALWAYS distanced himself from progressive rock, or rather the use of the term.....Jethro Tull has moved on from prog....Genesis certainly threw prog rock to the wayside, Yes and Gentle Giant gave up trying to be progressive.....YES is touring right now with the same songs they were doing in the 70s, being dinosaurs, in some attempt to appease crazy prog fans who have depressingly made the genre into a cult, and if you go against the unwritten laws then you will be excommunicated....it's all ridiculous really.....I said before.....if the site were really serious about show casing prog MUSIC, then prog albums by non prog bands should be on the site....The inclusion of Queen shows me that the site is SERIOUS and not just following some Dungeon and Dragons unwritten code. ...and for the record I do not yell....I just get excited......

And I joined this site, and agreed to become an integral, "inner circle" member because I believed in and supported their "vision," about which we (and especially Max and myself) have had myriad discussions.
Thus, perhaps you don't understand the level of shock and betrayal I feel to see them compromising that vision, a vision that I have spent two years actively, aggressively supporting. It is not about making the archives "elitist," or not adding new bands, or anything else. It is about a principle - and everyone here knows how big I am on principle, whether it is political, spiritual or musical.
Yes, I know I'm right. But even if everyone - including Cert, tuxon and the few others in the rabid minority - bowed down and said, "Oh yes, Holy One, you are right, and we are mistaken to have believed that Queen is an appropriate addition to the site," this would not change my feelings of shock and betrayal. Nor am I suggesting some sort of "ultimatum" to Max and Rony: "Either remove Queen from the site or...........else." It is simply going to take me a very, very long time to adjust to the sadness I feel at where I see the site going - and I warned Max and Rony this would be the case if they allowed members to add bands and albums. My fears are being borne out right in front of me.
Yes, I'll get over it. And I don't plan to leave the site. But like richardh, Jim Garten, Tony R and other very long-term veterans of the site, my "excitement" and "super" feeling about the site have gone from a boil to a simmer, and I doubt that it will boil again.
Peace.

Queen was the first group that I discover for myself. I used to absolutely adore them for 5 years, but by and by I started listening to another groups and finally came to prog.
In my opinion from all their albums only Queen I and II should be listed here, if any at all. Queen did not play progressive music, in my opinion. Sometimes it reminded prog, but it never was. So if it is a policy of Progarchives to mention all albums, I guess should not be here after all.
Beatles also had some prog moments of Sgt. Pepper. Why not include them here too - all albums?

I think that's a bit too general. You can't just say that a band isn't prog if they released some non prog albums. Most of these bands have peaks of creativity, and most of the bands you mention wrote progressive music during that time. BTW: Gentle Giant kind of stands out - I didn't know that they had non-progressive phases ...
