Sly and the Family Stone are NOT progressive at all.  Being 18, I am ashamed I even know about them. I blame my dad for keeping his 70s records.

Sly & The Family Stone performed at Woodstock in 1969 and played am
medley which included the song "I Want To Take You Higher"
To Crimson Prince: No need to be ashamed  , surely you don't want your kids to be ashamed when they remember listening to your music in a couple of years!!

The beautiful and buxom Adrienne Barbeau did a wild dance to that number back on the 70s ("All In the Family" spinoff) sit-com "Maude," and made quite the impression on me! Arrroooo!

OOPS! I was meant to stick to music, wasn't I? My mistake!
OK: Other fine Sly (Sylvester Stewart) and the Family Stone songs included "It's a Family Affair" and "Everyday People." One of my favourite Steve Hackett tracks is "Everyday," which has an anti-drug theme. (Sly Stone was troubled by serious drug problems, especially after his career peaked.)

Ex Beatle John lennon and "the Dirty Mac" appear on the excellent Rolling Stones "Rock and Roll Circus" DVD, as do a very young Jethro Tull, doing a spot-on version of the rocking "Song for Jeffrey." Too cool!
