I hear this stuff on my local hard rock station- and thats exactly where it belongs- a hard rock, or metal station/forum. Maynard is a blithering idiot- I I cant see why so many people buy into his wierdo-guy act. He's probably a real sissy when it comes down to it- The drumming is this only good thing about tool- the rest is GARBAGE!

Absolutely correct, good sir. This is hard rock, with a strange bald man singing about how God left him to starve (with all the money and baldness he already has). Tool makes money off of other people's ignorance, as most non-progressive bands on this website do. Aenima is just Lateralus part one, Lateralus is really secretly called "Lateralus: The Continuation of ignorance's gift." I stated all of this information under the "Lateralus" review area though, so I won't sit here and repeat myself. L.Nelson (above) you absolutely right.

4 stars  —  This album is very good. Really. I like every song on this CD (except "Useful Idiot", "Cesaro Summability" and "Ions", because they are not songs... Aenima would be better without those three...). Every Tool album is different. I think this one is the best for "beginners".

1 stars  —  This album is horrible. I am a fan of dream theater so i thought id check these guys out. Man what i mistake i made. If they were only half as good as Dreamtheater it would have been better. The only bright spot on the album is Prison Sex. That is why it got a one star instead of zero. Dont wate ur money.

1 stars  —  Why is this band here? It's just phoney straightforward power metal mixed with opera vocals. No, those few over 5-minute songs DON'T MEAN IT'S PROG.

The same thing with Rhapsody. I think metal bands should be removed here, they are the most regressive groups. Real "Prog-metal" groups usually only concentrate on technical masturbation without dynamics and nuances.

WE NEED A REFORM!
 
 
And you need to read the review guidelines.
 
Although I agree that this band isn't prog.

5 stars  —  Amazing album. Actually one of my favorite albums ever. Tarja's vocals, the music everything just intertwines perfectly together. Anyone who loves prog, metal, or music in general should definitely get this album. Nightwish are and will always be one of the best Metal bands around. Long Live Nightwish!

And oh yeah, Manilla eye- You're an idiot. At least listen to the album first.

1 stars  —  There are some good things here (in particular Tarja vocals) but after the first listening you will find only the same boring power metal...and honestly i wonder why this band is present in progarchives (just like Rhapsody!). Only for boring power metal fans.

 

Sorry if I'm overdoing it, Easy Livin, but some bands in the Archives are more likely to get this sort of 'review' than others...

TRANSATLANTIC SMPTe progressive rock album and reviews TRANSATLANTIC - SMPTe (2000)

3 stars  —   Well for every 5 star review I do I try to balance it with a 2 or 3 star review (let's face it, you have to look hard to find a 1 or 2 star prog album). So I am led to review the first Transatlantic album. So many stars, so much promise here, and they almost did it. The album is brilliant, inconsistent, and fulfils and disappoints at the same time. The first song is brilliant. Surprising is Pete's amazing bass playing, and Mike's ability to play symph prog. Neil's writing is up to his usual (at the time) standard, and Roine takes a low profile sideman role here, though he also sounds great. But, unfortunately it's all downhill from here. We are treated to a few throwaways (think Spock's Beard and Flower Kings weaker tunes), and a totally pointless cover. In this case it is the brilliant "In Held T'was in I" by Procal Harum, a brilliant proto-prog item, the cover of which adds nothing and if fact subtracts from the absolutely brilliant and ground-breaking (should I say genre-inventing) original. If you want to hear this song in all its glory, get the reissue of their "Shine on Brightly" and don't look back. I'll go with 3 stars here because "All of the Above" really is great.
 
It really seems that although he says a lot about the album, his initial motivation for writing the review is to counterbalance 5 star reviews.

I disagree that it is inappropriate though.  his motivation for reviewing the album is to review something he considers mediocre.  he gives a balanced view of the record and in my opinion, it helps me to decide whether to listen to it or not.  In fact, I don't own any SMPTe records, but was thinking of getting Transatlantic.  After reading this review, I'm inclined to go check out some MP3s first.  IMO, he's fulfilled the requirements of the review.

I'm not saying that it is inappropriate, I just posted it because the introduction to the review annoyed me, and to see what you all think of it.

Regarding SMPTe: IMO he's mostly right, but the cover of In Held (T'was I) is great - I guess this is a really subjective matter. The two other tracks apart from the stunning All of the Above might be considered filler by people who don't like a mix of Beatles, Flower Kings and Spock's Beard ... it's up to you.

I'll definitely check them out then.  but perhaps skip past the ones that are like the beatles etc.!

My own personal view of this album is that it is ideally suited to Cliff Richard fans..especially people who give it 5 stars.
