DREAM THEATER - Octavarium (2005)
Review by Tom @ 1:03:00 PM EST, 4/22/2005 — To Rafael > You downloaded James' Labrie solo album, Elements Of Persuasion. The first song is called "Crucify". Dude, thats no DT! It proofs once more that you can't trust p2p. Sorry, had to rectify this review by Rafael. It seems that more people have made this mistake. I can't really say something about this album, cause it isn't out yet until 7th of June. So that's why I gave no stars. But hell, DT knowing it will be great! Ok, a bit fanb DREAM THEATER - Octavarium (2005)
Review by Rafael @ 11:20:41 AM EST, 4/22/2005 — No, i didnt downloaded elemts of persuation, the crappy mp3's says very clear the track names of this album, and if an mp3 says a song name, than its the song no doubt about it, i have never listened to james labrie solo album, but i dont care, i wont listen to that album, i know i have downloaded octavarium, no doubt, its the real octavarium, i dont have to compare it to elements of persuation, cause i know its octavarium, i mean, the torrent folder was named "octavarium", i dont think it needs more proove than that, people, dont buy this album, is not good. oyish there... Ok, I've got plenty of trust and hope in these guys. Ciao!Tom and Rafael having a hissy-fit.
now then girls, neither of you have heard the album-why not wait until you have! |

RADIOHEAD Ok Computer — This kind of stuff should not be on this site, I hope someone will wake up and remove it. Since when did alternative rock become progressive rock? You might as well add Green Day, Chemical Brothers and other techno-crap. And oh, throw in David Bowie too. And why not Oasis or Nirvana?
RADIOHEAD Ok Computer
Review by Guilherme Baldin, the GG fanatic @ 11:21:48 AM EST, 1/19/2005 — C´mon guys! You can´t be serious! A band that is all the time on MTV, doing videoclips, or whatever, with a leprechaun as a vocalist, IT´S NOT PROG. Why we should listen to this @#**??? It´s modern, it´s "fashion"! The real prog was made in the 70´s by Gentle Giant, Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, ELP, and it´s OVER. I´m 14 years old and I really think you oldies and I should stay where we know it´s safe: living in the past. I really hope this message would open your eyes to the truth about prog music. [%*!#] MTV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RADIOHEAD Ok Computer
Review by bob x @ 12:06:23 PM EST, 1/19/2005 — Ok - I guess my first attempt at this wasn't accepted because I didn't meet the 50 word requirement. With that being said,I would like to just say how much I enjoy the prog archives and how helpful they are by turning me on to many new and good bands. But I am not so sure a band like RADIOHEAD should be included here. Let me repeat my first attempt at a review of this. THIS IS NOT PROGROCK!!!!! How could anyone ,ever want to list this as such? Esp. when the likes of BRIAN ENO and KRAFTWERK have not been included in the archives? Somebody fumbled on this one!
RADIOHEAD Ok Computer
Review by Rob The Good @ 3:32:11 AM EST, 1/26/2005 — In all honesty, when you've been brought up on Genesis, Pink Floyd, Yes & King Crimson, this is a REAL let down. It's mainstream, but having a trendy "out there" approach which I find very irritating (pretending to be avant-garde!). Sure, the musicians themselves have some skill, but their compositions are monotonous, their lyrics are bland, but worst of all, they are lumped together on this site with some of the greatest rock musicians of the 20th Century. What an insult. This isn't even for completionists as far as I'm concerned. Take it if you're an alternative rock fan, but if you're into exciting and stimulating progressive music you will be extremely disappointed. It's just not that good to be honest!
RADIOHEAD Ok Computer Review by Redhead @ 9:52:36 AM EST, 1/30/2005 — Alert THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH REAL PROG MUSIC !!! Now you might think that these guys are great,if so it is NOT for their musical ability. There a no soaring guitars, no lavish keyboard,no great compositions. All there is....is Radiohead, some angry men from UK. Whom barely can play their instruments. Stay clear- if you are a real progfan!
RADIOHEAD Ok Computer Review by brodders69 @ 6:34:04 AM EST, 4/22/2005 — There I was, sat in my Ivory Tower in Progland when I bellowed to my PA “Excuse me dear, could you please send the following memo to Marcelo, Greenback, Guilherme Baldin, Prog-O-Saurus, Rob The Good, Redhead, CrazyDiamond, Ulmanor, Grego & Tony Fisher: Get real you muppets, this album (and the 2 subsequent studio albums) is where prog-rock is heading in the modern world (Mars Volta will take it further but you probably don’t like them either); Forget your oldie worldie, hey nonny nonny, twiddly dee ‘this is real prog- rock’ rubbish which you are so fond of wasting your lives listening to; Move on with the times, chill out & accept the fact that Radiohead are better & have more substance than any of the bands that you devote your sad little lives to! Regards. Brodders69. P.S. This is the best album in the world ever & even Channel 4 viewers agree with me, so nurrr!”
RADIOHEAD Ok Computer Review by Nick the bassist @ 2:09:03 PM EST, 4/22/2005 — Sorry Brodders69, but all that proves is that Channel 4 viewers are tasteless sheep for voting this best album of all time. As a musician, I hate to be overcritical of anyone else's output but this is one of the least interesting albums I have ever listened to and a sad reflection on where English rock is going. Whether it's prog or Britpop or anything else is immaterial; it's poorly composed, not very well performed and, in my view, not worth buying. Those you describe as "muppets" are amongst some of the most thoughtful contributors to this site and deserve more respect from you for their opinions. The fact that you don't agree doesn't make their views any less valid. Radiohead better than Yes, Genesis, Camel, Pink Floyd, Caravan and the like? I don't think so!!! This is an album that some love and some hate - there is little middle ground. My advice is to borrow and listen before you buy. These are not reviews of the album.
The last two are almost reviews - but in essence, it's a forum-type response-reply, so I think they're invalid - the album is only mentioned as a by-the-by thing.
Note that they're not all 0 star reviews - I'm not being biased in any way

YES - 90125 (1983)
Review by brodders69 @ 5:40:05 AM EST, 4/22/2005 — This morning on the way to work, while idly listening to Chris Moyles on Radio 1 (I know, I know but my CD player is being temperamental at the moment so I had no option) I heard the new single by YES, a remixed dance version of OWNER OF A LONELY HEART. And it reminded how much I hate the 90125 album, with its not very well concealed attempts to break into every comfortable household in middle-America by playing the most awful radio-friendly pop-rock. So I have a suggestion to make – once prog-rock bands start to try & reach out to the mainstream rather than concentrate on making music for art’s sake (as they all preach to us in their formative years) they should all be gathered in the corner of a quiet field & mercilessly shot through the head. Form an orderly queue behind the trigger for target practice on Messrs Wakeman, Anderson, Howe, etc. Next week’s victims: SPOCK’S BEARD.
Not so much a review, more of a rant I feel and what Howe and Wakeman got to do with ot I dont know?

ANGLAGARD - Hybris (1992)
Review by Rick @ 11:48:59 AM EST, 4/25/2005 — I must say before i start I only listened to the song which was on the site, and it was great The different moods change, from soft sound to hard sound, quiet to loud, a real masterpice, you can rarely find them like this. It cannot really be related to something, maybe a bit Jethro tull listening to the flutes but that's just a piece of the world for example.
What a fool.....how can you review a cd that you've never listen...just one track.....stupid review !

Please, Anglagard has almost no relation with Jethro Tull, Anna's flute style is closer to Thijs Vsan Leer and sometimes to Peter Gabriel, but not to Ian Anderson. Seems that for many people flute is synonim of Jethro Tull. And the poor guy doesn't even tell us what's the name of the song Iván

JETHRO TULL - Thick As A Brick (1972)
Well, it's not that it's written in Spanish, is that, as any of the Spanish-speaking members can confirm, this is not a review at all. He starts stating that there are a lot of progheads in Chile, and that a friend told him that it was compulsory to own the best albums of the best bands... no need to translate the list... All the rest are amateurs in his oppinion, and all of them are English (!!!). Finally, he hopes somebody can translate his review...
It should be deleted. I agree with the rating to TAAB though...

What are the rules on non-English reviews? I make an effort to make
sure that the English i write is understandable and not some illegible
mumbo jumbo. But I'd prefer even illegible English to a language I
don't understand at all!

I understand that the rules are simply that ALL reviews should be in English, like all posts in the forums. ...and that includes the above sentence... However, I think this review, while wholly accurate and an honest if opinionated portrayal of the album stretches it a bit... GENESIS Foxtrot
Review by Hally Hally Hassen Free @ 1:23:48 PM EST, 4/26/2005 — I've always missed the excitement of GENESIS as a 70s prog rock icon. However, I would rate Nursery Crymes and Lamb Lies Down on Broadway as 5 stars on this board. Here in Afganistan the Taliban used the intro to "Watchers" to bring down the Bamiyan Buddhas.
Two-star humour too, despite the (intended?) irony (music was banned under the Taliban).

PORCUPINE TREE - Deadwing (2005)
Review by yankeehotelfoxtrot @ 4:56:35 PM EST, 4/29/2005 — I am only familiar with Porcupine's latest three albums. However, I have just bought a couple of their older ones as I want to know much more about this incredibly band. Alongside Pearl Jam and Pink Floyd you do not get greater music than this (in my opinion) and Deadwing is indeed a masterpiece. I could not believe when a Danish newspaper gave this album 2 out of 6. I was shocked! I LOVE IT - and I always will. I could listen to it day in day out. Everyone should buy this album. I guarantee that it is worth every penny. The title track is one of the best tracks on the album but there are no bad tracks, seriously! If I had to say anything negative about this album I would have to think for hours - maybe days. I have got nothing but praise for Deadwing. Close your eyes and turn up the volume on your stereo. I promise, you will NOT get dissapointed...!

RUSH - Counterparts (1993)
Review by Christopher Carr @ 5:06:56 PM EST, 4/29/2005 — Any Rush album deserves a five star review... The only reason for it is: RUSH and no questions asked! True masters of their craft and virtuoso players they are. Their middle name is Change. the play with passion and their work are always the best...
I dunno, something just doesn't seem right...
