I did a search and found nothing on this topic.

What is the uglyist, worst sounding music you can think of? I don't mean because its by bad musicians or anything like that. I want to find something that will make most people say "Uhh...excuse me, would you please turn that crap off." I want to find something that will basically clear the room of life.

I know someone who said this happened with U Totem's second album, and with Trout Mask Replica. All suggestions are welcomed.

I find mariachi and rancheras absolute torture even if I am of Mexican descent.

Captain Beefheart is a great example. Very difficult listening.

Perhaps VdGG...most people find their sound horrific.

I second Meshuggah...they are just disgusting sounding.  They're fantastic though.

Also, some serious live Mars Volta will disgust many, many people.  Le sigh.

Any RIO band...will scare the sh*t out/weird out any mainstream listener.

I managed to get some people mad at me yesterday for playing Sound Chaser by Yes at a party (some people kept repeating 'Say no to Yes').  But really, if all they're used to is the stuff that's popular today, then most prog will do (I've managed to get people really pissed at me for playing Dark Side of the Moon and Aqualung).

Try The Residents, even harder than Captain Beefeter or Henry Cow.

I've been interested in the residents. What do you think is the best starting point??

And thanks for all the responses. Keep 'em comin'...

Been trying to find them. I've only heard one album, and i really like it. But, your right i think that would do the trick.

Try "Eskimo" by the Residents. And then try to imagine they made an EP with remixes of some of the songs on it called "Diskimo", that was supposed to be played in discos.
