well you can say that you're an Aussie doubling as  a bearded Polish female athelete thinly disguised as Steve Hackett pretending to be a Prog lover, but since you're a british lassie, I will not take your word for it.

And don't forget the sumptous Faggots that we eat!
There stands Olias to outward to build a ship
Holding within all we hope to retain
The frame will be so built to challenge the universe
Clasped with the skins of the fish of the plain

the british are silly. why would they go to such trouble of setting up a colony only to get greedy with the taxes and have said colony revolt and completely screw over the mother country. it's just like my grandfather once said to me: "coffee is for people who think that drinking tea makes them look like new age yoga bastards."

PT's remake of Fadeaway signifies everything I don't like about their current iteration...

Edit:  To elaborate:

I first got into Porcupine Tree in 1999, when I found a copy of Up The Downstair at a record shop.  It seemed unique, so I thought I would give it a try.  It was amazing...  and Small Fish/Burning Sky/Fadeaway is still one of my favorite album closers.

As of late, PT's had far too little spacy exploration, far too much alt-rock.  Now, I don't mind alt-rock in my prog, but I dislike it when it wasn't there to begin with and creeps in like a tumor later on.

So when I heard that PT was doing Fadeaway on tour again, I was excited.  I read they did it on the XM2 disc, so I got ahold of that...

...  Who is this guy singing?  Why does it hurt my ears?  The song itself remains basically unchanged, but the VOCALS are something awful...  it would be like having Captain Beefheart sing Golden Slumbers or Jon Anderson singing Bobby Brown Goes Down, some songs just do not need a vastly different vocalist on it, especially when it's not even a cover...  if this is how they wish this song to be remembered...

First off.. you were listening to a live version of Fadeaway... and it was sung by John Wesley, who plays guitar with PT on the road.  I've heard him do that song live, and personally didn't find it to be that bad.

Second, since when did anything live sound just like the studio version... and who are you to question Steven Wilson's taste.  He likes the way Wes sings it.  Also I really like the direction in which PT have headed lately.  Deadwing is now my second favorite PT album behind In Absentia.  I prefer them a little harder.. and less spacey.  But if you don't like Deadwing.. you'll probably love their next album, since last I saw Mr. Wilson he was buying some obscure heavy metal albums and the Godspeed You Black Emperor cd...

Meh, threefates, it's not about live things sounding the same as the studio version.  I'm all for improvisation and changes.

I just didn't fancy the guy's vocals on that track, the first PT song I ever fell in love with.  I do like Deadwing, though not as much as their older stuff.

Too bloody right it is! Americans wouldn't know good comedy if it stood naked in the doorway and begged them to make love to it.

The first thing American's do when they see a great British comedy is say "that's great, let's see how we can butcher it!"

A perfect example is the US version of The Office. But there were also US versions of Red Dwarf and Coupling which were so bad I couldn't believe it. Why bother trying to mess with perfection? it was quite obvious from the start that you'll never be able to top those shows.

No but I would know a hot blonde if she stood naked in the doorway and begged me to make love to her.  In the end, which is the more important to know?

I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?
