Do you guys know any music that is just perfect for listening to in pitch blackness or while you sleep? I noticed that music in pitch blackness is awesome depending on what you're listening to and I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions. I've tried Lustmord which freaked me out and Tangerine Dream which was really relaxing |

VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR Pawn Hearts
Review by Joren @ 6:28:43 AM EST, 6/7/2004 PROG REVIEWER ![]() The album starts with the excellent “Lemmings (Including Cog)”, which begins quietly, but quickly evolves into a very dynamic composition with both calm en energetic passages (saxophone, organ). “Man-Erg”, in my opinion the best song on “Pawn Hearts”, also starts off quietly, but when Hammill has sung about the killer inside him, you get shook up by the ‘screaming’ saxophone and the ‘beating’ organ. “Man-Erg” simply is an amazing song. It’s like watching a thriller: intense, exciting and fast-moving. The lengthy “A Plague Of Lighthouse Keepers” also stays fascinating till the end, with its great mix of mellow, dreamy passages and fast mind-blowing (electronic) runs. Overall, this album has the same dark atmosphere as “H To He Who Am The Only One”, but the compositions are a bit more mature and much more dynamic and the sound is sometimes very aggressive, especially on “Man-Erg”. “Pawn Hearts” is an absolute must for all lovers of progressive rock, especially for the ones who like dark, symphonic prog! MAN-ERG: A HORROR MOVIE FOR YOUR EARS!

There are quite a few albums that "change" when you play them in the dark. This is especially true of Floyd: Animals, The Wall and The Final Cut are completely different in the dark. Close to the Edge increases in intensity in the dark. So does ELP's "Welcome Back." |

That's a pretty trippy album. I enjoy writing, and I put Olias (or something like it) on and just write- or just sit in there in the dark. |

The freakiest album I have heard in the dark is Metavoid by Lustmord, which I recommend everyone should do at least once. I am going to listen to Fantomas' Delirium Cordia in the dark which will be utterly terrifying considering it freaked me out in broad daylight. Everyone should also check out Bohren and Der Club of Gore's album Black Earth, which can be described as horror jazz and is performed in pitch blackness live |

The liner notes for Diamanda Galas's album 'Plague Mass' recommends that it should be listened to in pitch darkness at high volume....

I listened to it the other day, in complete darkness, and it was a frightning experience to me, but I'm easily scared I must add.
edit: Sorry, forgot to say that I was reffering to Phantômas - Delerium Cordia Edited by tuxon |

I like silence when I sleep but at a push, I'd listen to Rainbow Dome Music by Steve Hillage.
