perhaps this subject has already been posted...sorry for my ignorance if it has.

anyway, i find this phenomenon known as "stage names" to be interesting:

Elton John = Reginald Kenneth Dwight

Enya = Eithne Ni Bhraonian

Sting = Gordon Matthew Sumner

Alice Cooper = Vincent Damon Furnier

Syd Barrett = Roger Keith Barrett

Bono = Paul David Hewson

Muddy Waters = McKinley Morganfield

Ringo Starr = Richard Starkey

Gene Simmons = Chaim Witz

Ozzy Osbourne = John Michael Osbourne

Freddy Mercury = Farouk Pluto Bulsara

Marilyn Manson = Brian Warner

Madonna = Madonna Louise Ciccone

Bob Dylan = Robert Zimmerman

David Bowie = David Jones (changed because of Davy Jones of the Monkees)

Engelbert Humperdinck = Thomas Dorsey (changed because of Tommy Dorsey of jazz)
