...if you only had a few years left, or an even more restricted period of time? What would you do? What experiences in life would you want to take part in before your inevitable demise? I think I would probably do something similar to Hunter S. Thompson's infamous venture into the heart of Las Vegas with almost every conceivable psychedelic, upper, downer...

I'd become a member of an online Prog rock forum and "fritter and waste the hours" in an offhand way....

I'd probably just kick around on a piece of ground in my hometown, waiting for someone or something to show me the way..

Seriously, I would get so wrecked. I would indulge in allthe things you're not supposed to for either health, financial or moralistic reasons. I would go out with a bang. Probably after having seen the following:

The Northern Lights
Paris
Grand Canyon
The Rockies
San Fransisco
The Pyramids
A Genesis Reunion
A few more Rush concerts

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

I'm far too aware of my own mortality already. I don't think I'd change my behavior too much, unfortunately.

Though I would like to travel more. See the Parthenon, the Pyramids, Easter Island, Carnival in Rio, go on safari in Africa and walkabout in the outback. I've never experienced Absinthe, either. And unless there's a "Make a Wish" foundation for dying musicians, I'll probably never get to jam with my musical heroes...so like Viv said in Spinal Tap: "I'd probably get a bit stupid and start to make a fool of myself in public 'cause there wouldn't be a stage to go on."

I´d probably stay drunk for the rest of my life.

ErmmInteresting topic:

Travel with my family.

Lots of quality time with my wife & kids.

Read more classics, eat more fine food, hear more fine music, ride more fine motorcycles, write a letter to the editor, give up the internet....

The drugs? Those were my teens & 20s -- been there, done that -- nothing new to see there....

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

I would spend my life savings on music and leave my family with tons of CDs, vinyl, and tapes. Then I would walk around naked in public for shock value until I was arrested for nudity.

Oh, and I'd buy an 8 voice Oberheim OB-X or a minimoog.

Family. I'll defintely head back to Michigan and spend time with my brothers and sisters. Seatle for RobJ, of course. Take the wife and kids on a long vacation through the northern states, maybe slide up to Canada and have a beer with a friend.

Travel. The South Pacific is the place I've always wanted to spend some time. Hang out with dude for a day or two and try some Aussie brews. The U.K. is also big on my list of places I want to see. No toad-in-the-hole for me though, I'll stick with a curry.   A European tour, all you can drink, of course.

Music. I would like to see Holdsworth play before one of us goes.  I'll give up trying to play and concentrate on those who can.  I'd like to see Echolyn play live too. Maybe they'll let me sing a verse of Never the Same on stage with them, eh Peter?

 Beer (lot's of beer).

A friend of mine, about my age, just told me earlier this week that he had cancer. I was dazed. He's a good friend, but I was jolted with thought of my own mortality and spent most of that day in a stupor. I can't imagine how I'll feel when that day comes.

Now, if I could arrange the moment, I'd die at that moment of release while performing the function that created me in the first place.

That's how I am beginning to feel. I need to get out to more concerts. I wanna see Yes, if they ever play live again. I want to see Crimso. I would like to go to some symphonies and get into more classical music. Also, jazz!!! Right now my jazz taste is pretty obvious: Kind of Blue and fusion stuff only.

I can't believe I forgot family in my other post. Yes!! I would need to see all of my family before I died. My previous post was kind of ignorant and foolish that way. I guess I didn't take it seriously enough.

Interesting prospect.

I'd buy a sail boat, gather the wife and kids and head south towards Brazil. Then across the Atlantic (it's a big boat) to Africa on a north east route. Then onwards to Gibraltar and into the Mediterranean where I would head to Italy and later Greece. Along the way I would eat all the local foods, drink in the culture and settle down to the business of dying having learned and shared new things with my family before I go.
