It's not your wife but a zero rating you'd have to be scared of!

My partner is a classically trained musician and musical academic. She's not dismissive of any particular genre, but you couldn't call her a prog fan.

She hates Magma (though she took me to see them a few years ago for my birthday), Genesis, Gabriel, Yes and ELP.

She's kind of ambivalent about Gentle Giant, Hatfield and the North, Soft Machine, Univers Zero, Tangerine Dream, Jade Warrior and King Crimson (she rates Fripp highly as a musician and enjoyed seeing KC on the Power To Believe tour).

She likes Gryphon, Gong, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd and Zappa.

All things being equal, I'd say I'm pretty fortunate.

My girlfriend just HATES almost everything that I hear... There are only two bands that I listen (not so very often) that she likes: BJH and Renaissance.

She hates, especially, The Melvins... Goddamnit, I guess I'll never be able to understand women...
And above all, is punk

My wife listens to Celine Dion and The Bee-Gees   oh and she loves the carpenters !

I'd say that we are fairly incompatible when listening to music.....

My girlfriend, like every teenage girl, likes her share of pop-ish crap and pop-punk, but she appreciates my music and loves Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, the Beatles, Yes, and Genesis...she's a big classic rock girl, so I'm pretty fortunate she doesn't listen to anything like extreme pop or rap  But overall, for a teenage high school girl, her tastes are miles above the rest of the people i know!

yur wife "hates" yes but you ask us if we have a partner that is "ambivalent" to our tastes.....ambivalent would have to mean indifferent in this context...not exhibiting extreme emotion akin to hatred...the derivative of the thread ....so snow dog...it seems you have missed the point of your own thread

My wife loves Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush and David Sylvian. Good enough for me.

Mine doesn't really like any of what I listen to but she tolertes it all.
She lives for the Smashing Pumpkins. Likes Counting Crows, Goo Goo Dolls, Live, Candlebox, Dave Matthews...
I tried playing things for her she might like that were in some respect or another relatable to what she likes, but she's just the type that if she didn't pick it or fall into it herself she just doesn't dig it so much.
No biggie. We may not like so much what the other does, but neither do we dislike it. And I've got a fair appreciation for the Pumpkins now.

I've been listening mostly to 'harder' stuff lately, like Arena, Ayreon, Nightwish and so, and as soon as my wife comes near, I'd better put on the headphones. All I earn is a shake of the head... She's into radio, Celine and Barbra.... *sigh*

I'm pretty fortunate with my girlfriend. Though hardly a prog fan, she appreciates the quirkier side of music and listens to a lot of the more inventive alt rock bands (Muse, Radiohead, and a bunch of obscurer bands that I can't for the life of me remember the names of). We have a mutual respect for each other's tastes, which at the end of the day is all that's required.

She hates Yes, but neither loves or hates the rest of my music. I may have phrased it badly. I'm very, very sorry.

Thats the second time that you've had a go at me now! Can you go and bother someone else?

My girlfriend likes classical music  and some decent pop and alternative e.g. Coldplay. She doesn't listen to prog but she likes some songs.

My girlfriend is an amazing, classically trained piano player (playing since she was lke 6). So she likes ELP because of all those beastly keyboard lines. Other than that, she's pretty indifferent about prog.
