Topic: Bass players-Ric 4001 VS. Fender Jazz Posted: April 17 2005 at 17:08 |
I'm hoping to get a lot of "other" votes and some
suggestions. I'm in the market for another 4 string bass.
I wanted to see what your preferences are.
Both the Ric and the Fender are stock from the mid 70's.
Any ideas?

I like them both. You can get great tones from both of them. I like the sound that a Rickenbacker gives off a bit more though. From a price range, the Fender Jazz bass is better than a Rick. So I guess it all comes down to personal opinion.

I don't know why, but I've never been ann that keen on Fender (although in guitars, I do like the thin, trebly fragile sound you can get in some situations) although my main bass at the minute is a Fender P Bass, that's only because I got it cheaply second hand at a time when my only bass was absolutely entry level. So I'd go for the Rick, I guess.

While the sound of a Ric 4001 is virtually impossible to simulate, I like the feel of a Fender Jazz better.

I agree. Love that Ric sound but the action on the
Fender Jazz seems to suit me better. Does anyone have any
Non-Ric/Fender suggestions?
Thanks.

I found a Washburn Taurus that has a P-Bass and Jazz pickup in it. You could mix the sounds together to get other sweet sounds. You might check that out.

Ricks sound and feel just oh so beautiful, i would buy one if i could afford it
For me the fenders just feel horrible in comparison, but that could be
because I've only ever been able to find Mexican manufactured fenders
in this country. (or at least music shops near me)
