I think everybody has posted most of what I like in each of the sub genres. Henry Cow is a recent discovery for me however and a total delight I must say.

I would have to say Symphonic... but something from each genre has won a place in my heart.

Folk Prog
  • Comus's First Utterance
  • Aphrodite's Child's 666
  • Gryphon's Red Queen to Gryphon Three
Italian Prog
  • PFM's first three albums
  • Museo Rosenbach's Zarathustra
  • Banco's Darwin and Io Sono Nato Libero
  • Quella Vecchia Locanda's two album
Krautrock
  • Can's Tago Mago
  • Popol Vuh's Einsjager and Siebenjager
  • Grobschnitt's first five albums
  • Faust's self titled
Rock-In-Opposition
*some people seem to be under a misconception of what RIO really is, and although it was more of a "movement" then a subgenre...
  • Samlas Mammas Manna's Klossa Knaptitet
  • Henry Cow's Legend
  • Univers Zero's Heresie
Space Rock
  • Nektar's Remember the Future
  • Island's Pictures
  • Algarnas Tradgard's first album
Canterbury
  • Caravan's In the Land of Grey and Pink
  • Camel's The Snow Goose
  • National Health's Of Queues and Cures

"Progressive.... yeah, that's it..."

Not a big fan of neo-prog my self...

1. Symphonic

2. Fusion

3. Art Rock

4. Space Rock/Experimental

5. Prog Metal

Like others, genres seem useless to me. Just confuse the matter imo.

Symphonic all the way, baby!! Prog Metal kind of rules, though. Maybe you guys could describe my taste for me:

All Rush

early Yes (through Relayer)

Pink Floyd (DSOTM thru The Wall)

BSS era ELP

Red era King Crimson

For me, it's symphonic, mostly because some of my favourite prog bands (Yes, Camel, Focus et al) are from that genre. I do like Art Rock a lot too though.

I voted Zeuhl, but only because it's the only subgenre that really has a unifying sound (by which I mean, I don't see any other subgenre as "cohesive" enough to vote for it - I love Genesis but not all that much other sympho). Maybe Krautrock, too, but I don't much care for that.

"The most metal, in-your-face tour ever!"

With Slipknot? This is a joke, no?
