From www.wordreference.com:

Some would interpret that as "cheesy". Others seem to interpret it as "the big cheese".

In my opinion, without question, the best prog-metal singer is James LaBrie by a longshot. Great range and also great emotion and expressive vocals.

I voted other: Where is Bob Catley and Bruce Dickinson? My choice would have to be Uriah Heep's David Byron. Such incredible power!

I love LaBrie, Tate and Gildenlow, but I voted for Allen, of SYMPHONY X.
But just because Mike Baker (SHADOW GALLERY) wasn't listed in this poll - why wasn't he?

For some reason I love Tecchio's vocals. I can't think of a single good thing about them, but his chaotic, wild screeching (he is the one on Control and Resistance, yes?) really appeals to me. I don't think it would if he were in a different band and singing in a similar style though. That said, if it's him that sings for Hades I like that too... However my vote goes to Mr. Gildenlöw. Utterly fantastic.

I said
MJK from tool because they are my #1 favorite band but Mikael from
opeth in a close second. he is so versatile with melodic singing
and death metal growls.

I think Russel Allen is the best of the singers listed. He has great range and many different styles- he's pretty unique. But Crimson Prince had it right:

...and to add to the argument/discussion I could have sworn I was listening to the voice of Matthew Bellamy from Muse when listening to DT's latest "Octavarian" - any one care to comment on how close James la Brie's voice is sounding like the great vibrato Matthew Bellamy???

MJK.
by far. the least annoying prog-metal vocals of all. a smooth and pleasant voice plus amazing artistic composition, lyrics and technical ability.
beats the pants off laBrie any day.
